RX2 Struts and rear end.

So time has come to start buying all my parts for my 71 rx2. I wanna change the struts in the front, but don't know if any rx7 struts will fit ,with out doing any modification. I also want to put in a LSD rear end but don't know what donor car to get from. I read on a aussie forum that a rear end from a 82-83 gsl can work buy taking the pumpkin out and putting it on the stock rx2 rear end.

thanks in advance.

Billy @ ReSpeed sells aluminum spacers that drop into you Rx2 struts so you can use 81-85 Tokico shocks. These spacers are about $40 and shocks you can get for about $120 shipped! the lsd pumpkin from a 81-83 gsl will bolt into your rx2 rear end. hope this helped

Note: the threaded collar that comes with the rx7 shocks will not match the rx2 strut threads. My car was fitted with konis that have threads in the shock so when I removed them to install the Rx7 Tokicos I had no way to secure the shock, so if you are removing the stock type shock keep the top collar. I had to tack weld the rx7 tokico collar to the Rx2 strut. This works but is not ideal.

no spacer for the rear mate, we are all screwed when it comes to rear struts. i heard if you are going to stay at the stock height you can use a 99 Toyota 4runner front assembly in the rear of an Rx2. Dunno if it works, but who the hell wants to keep their car stock ride height anyway?

So what will be a good option for the rear? Am not trying to stay totally stock so it's doesn't really matter.

Very easy to say when you come from tinkering with Rx3 suspension set ups. The Rx2s self contained strut set up is a totally different animal then Rx3s leaf spring/shock configuration. Its a lot more expensive and critical then mixing and matching shocks at your auto parts store like you can do on an Rx3.

You can either buy the drop in function and form coilovers for 1800.00. That is for both front and rear.

Or for the fronts you can like mentioned above use the first gen inserts and use REspeeds spacer.

On the rear struts you have to get creative. You can buy a coilover strut assy that has an eyelet at both ends and it will bolt to the bottom in the stock location but the top you will have to make a mount for a single eyelet that would be very easy to do, but would involve welding. I also heard that a second gen rear strut assy will work with some modifications to the strut top. I contacted Koni and they said if you mail them your stock struts that they could make a new set too, so there's another option. I did not get prices though because I'm going to do end up doing it myself to save money.

SEcond gen shocks work 86-91. You just put your top hardware on them & they bolt right up. Mine have the coilovers on them from ground control. Go to RX-2 shock post by Jesuscookies for pictures in the club history

fchoncho told me that the fc3s rears will make your rx2 ride really high and if you lower it the shocks will bottom out. Coilovers are the only shot and they may still be at their limit

RE-Speed is working on a coilover solution for the front and rear of the 2 currently. He has the front done just needs to mock up the rear from a current set-up. Im planning on letting him borrow my car to use for the test mule.

Here is a link to the front. http://mrcmfg.com/catalog/product_in...roducts_id=434
