I'm running the renny front cover on my REW... It works great, just had to modify the oil passage a bit. Also I couldn't use the OMP because of space. The turbo would hit it so off it went.

Is the BRE front Plate/Cover similar to the REW engine?

In the case of the Renesis vs BRE its like this:

BRE- thick front Cover/thin front plate
Renesis- thin front Cover/thick front plate

When the Renesis front Cover is transferred to the BRE engine it should end-up being a bit shorter of an engine overall since its a thin front cover on a thin front plate. This might affect the location of the pulleys relative to each other considering the Eccentric is not getting any shorter and all the accessories just moved back by X amount. I've seen a few REW's with Renesis front covers but haven't seen one BRE with Renesis front cover which worries me a bit.

This is just me guessing for now...we'll see when I try it.

Anybody have any input?

Chris

The 13bre and the REW cover are interchangeable, except for the fact that the rew has a couple of extra holes for mounting which the 13bre front iron doesn't have. I was going to use a rew cover(bought everything needed) but then I was too lazy to make a new oil pan. I believe everything for the omp matches up, the only difference being the placement of it. The feed line is the same.

Nice to know. Thanks for that.

I'm still deciding how I will deal with the "shorter" engine...will probably need new oil pan made or welded together from other pans. Will probably need spacers for all the accessories...we'll see.

Here is what came in today...:)

I see what you did. I thought that was because the oil pan stuck too much out the bottom in your car. Was that the reason?

Out of curiosity, what is the reason for making all these modifications to put in the renisis front plate instead of going with the proven 13re or rew plate? Is the tiny difference in length critical to fitting everything in the rx8's engine bay?

I plan to keep the oem OMP, crank angle sensor in proper location(already have harness setup for that instead of cas), oem alternator and the ac compressor in place. Part of the reason is because I want to keep the rx8 ecu happy being as thought it's tied into everything in the car as well as retain cruise control etc by retaining the oem throttle. It's kind is a personal choice... I want it to be like it came with this engine... :)

you would be better served to get rid of those factory brackets and engine mounts entirely

Actually that was the main reason, because of the way the bre oil pan is shaped. Actually if you use the front renesis plate you can use the stock oil pan.

That is a great product that he made, but unfortunately that's for mounting a 13brew engine which has the mounts on the under side of the engine, going through the oil pan. The bre has the same style mounting as the renesis(side mounts). I noticed a huge difference while tuning a couple of fd's and my rx8 on the dyno, the fd's engine were rocking left and right, while mine had almost no movement whatsoever. Granted their mounts were a little more worn out than mine.

TeamRX8 02-29-12 03:18 AM

thanks for the clarification as those particulars are beyond my knowledge base, but you could adapt to it or do something different/similar as the case may be. IMO it makes sense to get rid on the RX8 RH mount/bracket regardless, that space is just too limited and critical. I have my own ideas on how to handle it, but that's all they are for the moment ...

If he wanted he could use something like this to mount the engine, although I would make them a little sturdier just for safety. There's actually no real need to use the renesis front cover, I have the electronic throttle control working just fine, my tachometer reads exactly what the Haltech does(give or take 20-40rpms/but that's normal from the smoothing that tachometer gauges do). Now for the omp you could use the rx8's(same bolt pattern) on the rew or re front cover and most likely you would use a Sohn 2stroke external oil adapter-so that would solve the different oil pickup placement.

Completely valid points. I hadn't thought of those issues until you brought them up. thanks for answering my question as its always nice to learn more. What kind of ecu are you going to use for the engine tuning.

Roen 03-01-12 03:58 PM

Very very interested.

I have always used the Microtech LT-10s with a custom plug and play harness but I'm thinking of switching it up to try something new and might decide to use the Haltech Sprint RE...this will probably be the last decision I make after all the fabbing is done etc

Dang dude this is freak'n awesome! Not sure if you mentioned it earlier but will all the stock stuff be functional?? Also would you be forced to mod the transmission in any way (sorry for my ignorance) Great work man!!!!

dznutzuk 03-03-12 10:26 AM

Here's a new video, like I said I use the bre cover and have everything working.
http://youtu.be/2z8OYvE5za0

ps. don't mind the minor exhaust leak noise, it's from the dp not sealing up to the turbo perfectly.

Nice work man! It looks mean with that turbo...Post more vids of it driving when you get a chance.

Questions on passing emissions test and the ECU used to control the RE? Are you doing two ECU's in your car? Are your mounts anything like these?

http://raceroots.com/index.php/produ...mount-set.html

Are all ancillary accessories working properly? Cruise, A/C, OMP, etc....

You're using RE front cover?
