Hey guys take a look at RX-3 Its a little cruddy but its a steal for $900 and I have about $1000 laying around doing nothing Im thinking about buying it. He says it runs and I have been really wanting a 3 for awhile now and this is a great deal but could you guys give me any advice on what to look for on it that would be problem areas.

You should definately get it. Just understand it will take a great deal of body work to get it presentable. The rear quarters are notorious for cancer, the floor pan, trunk, the area below the lower corners of the rear window rust pretty badly too. Pretty much the whole lower area of the car is rust prone. Also, the rust that you see on the surface will make you cringe. The rust you find on the backside of the metal will make you cry. So much rust... RX-3's are such fun and rewarding cars if you decide you can live with something being pretty ugly for a while as you fix the holes. Oh, and parts are a bitch and a half to get a hold of (blew out the rear wheel cylinder and couldn't find the part for 5 months.. thanks ebay). When **** breaks, just do your best to rig rx7 parts in place.
Go for it! I paid 2800 for mine, but it screamed from the moment I picked her up, just looked depressing.

Like what F'ing NOS says: rust can be a problem. The bottom corners of the rear window are a trouble spot for the rx2 and 3's - once they rust through there they let water leak into the the trunk which is diligently soaked into the sound deadening material and causes rust where the paint is rubbed away by the spare wheel.
Also check in the engine bay around where the battery is for any rust from the acid. Uniformally crappy paint might suggest the paint is old all over an possibly un-repaired....
How complete is it? No little trim bits been scavenged by other collectors (eg missing tail lights)? if it's complete, and it runs... then it sounds promising.
give it a go - at worst you will end up fitting a 13bT....

OOh, That one looks a little ruff. Check Recycler.com, I have seen quite a few clean body rx3's go for under 1000 not running. I guess it all depends on where you live to and how hard they are to find but here in CA I see a decent amount for sale. It's just my opinion, but I don't want to buy a rusty car thats gonna need alot of money to get the body into shape. I would just look for a clean body rx3 and don't worry if it runs or not. I actually got mine with only a spot of rust behind front quarterpanel, never been in an accident, clean complete interior, and a running 12a for 1200. I guess look at the big picture on how much a few more dollars up front may save you big money and time in the long run. Just my 2 cents.
