RX-2 & aftermarket seats

Hey guys.. I know this has probably been covered a billion times in other sections of the forum, but I wanted some input from you guys here in the other rotary section.

Anyone fitted aftermarket seats in their RX-2.. what fits well? I want to go with something reasonably light, but that is probably every seat made when comparing to the stock '2 seats. heh

I'd also like to keep it somewhat reasonably priced.. no $1200 seats, preferrably under $400 for the pair. Is this impossible? I found a set of new APC black suede seats here locally for $250 but I'm not too sure about APC.. they seem somewhat on the cheaper side quality-wise. What about Corbeau?

A 510 guy I know of said he could get me a set of Del Sol seats for around $300, but I'm not sure I want to put those in my '2 either.. heh. I guess I just don't know enough about seats to make a decision.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

I've got Corbeaus. Forza and TRS. They both fit fine, the TRS in the passenger location barely rubs the door panel and can recline, the Forza has no probs. May go Bride eventually as they're even more comfortable than the Corbeaus.

The GSL SE Seats are nice, and fit the 2. I had a set of these in my 3, and they were very comfortable. The brackets from a first gen will bolt right up. If you look around, you should be able to find a pair for about 100 to 200 tops.

Bride seats are pretty much top of the line and can get pricey. I have a clean pair of Honda prelude bucket seats (black cloth). Just need to have the brackets modified to be mounted in the RX2. I was going to use these until I got some Sparcos. I will take some pics and post them for you...

Jesuscookies is right...the stock SE seats do rock...My girlfriend just doesn't like the TRS that much. Looking for a stock seat to replace...

Yes, Brides are expensive (and probably overkill in a 2 anyway) but if you sit in one, you'll know why...just like top of the line Recaros.

Hmm.. are GSL-SE seat rails different than non-SE 1st gens? I tried putting 1st gen. seats from a '83 in my RX-2 but the rails were all wacky on the 1st gen. -- one side is at an angle. Also tried swappin the '2 rails onto the 1st gen. seats but the widths weren't quite right. Anyway it looked like more work than it was worth so I put the '2 seats back in.

You're right about that. I tried that swap on another 2 I used to have and I had to get the racks welded onto the 1st Gen RX7 seats to get them to fit. With that much modification, might as well go with an aftermarket seat. The SE seats are very confortable though...

Hmm, thats weird. I had them on my RX3 some years ago, and do not recall it being an issue. Maybe I am getting them mixed up with another car?

I took a pic of both seat bottoms when I was tinkering around with them.. '7 seat on the left, '2 on the right. I think the main problem was there was about a 1" different in widths between them so the '2 brackets wouldn't attach to the '7 seat without fabricating something up as 73IMPORT mentioned, etc. This was awhile ago so I'm not exactly sure on the details but you can get an idea from these pics.

Fab'ing something up isn't that too big a deal.

Those GSl se seats are sweet, I'd rock those! I think the main problem is finding a seat the is narrow overall that will fit (so the door will close) haahaa!

Personally I like the old school Recaro seats.

i agree rotorbrain i saw that too, however it had black interior and tan leather seats. I would definalty sport some black leathers in my next old school car. BTW incase you guys dont knwo you can't sit in a 3rfd gen seat for more than an hour with out pain. OR so i have been told, they are great for in town trips but a pain in the *** and back for long trips. Lates Matt
