The RC2-60 sounds like it was a beast back in '66. 185hp NA is pretty impressive even for now. A shame Ford discontinued the rotary program.

LOL:

"
I've never seen this blue one...but the other one is a Poppy Red 1965 Fastback... It was featured like 20 years ago in one of the Mustang mags...It was in Mint condition at the time...and still with the original owner who was an old man at the time. I'll see if I can do a search and find the article.

The problem with wankels (and always has been) were the head gaskets... The engines generated lots of power and were amazingly efficient. They always had problems sealing the heads though...As far as I know, It was the ONLY downfall of the engine. The head gaskets were of poor design and always blew out after awhile.

I guess he had no clue about apex seals and just associated piston terminology at the time. Surprised he didn't mention crankshafts too.

Wait! can't anyone here tell that the claim with these images is a hoax???

I had the same twin dizzy rotary with the starter on top.
Can't u see that the blue Mustang has a Mazda early 12A?

And that "Rotary Engine" emblem is right out of a Mazda catalog. BlackDragon is selling that logo for $30 on page 106. Why would a '65 Mustang have a emblem that Mazda produced starting in '79? certainly NOT a experimental factory car. More likely a transplant someone did at home.

LOL Experimental Ford rotary my.......!

The second link I posted looks pretty valid. Scans of a book published in '66 reviewing the experimental Mustang. The forum thread is just funny.

Ford never had a rotary program, the red rotary mustang that made 185HP was made by Curtiss-Wright. Ford tried to get into the Rotary game by buying 20% of Toyo Kogyo back in 1971, but when they were told that they would have access to everything but the rotary engine they gave up on the idea. The only American automotive company that did make a rotary was GM with there rotary corvettes.

GM also had a rotary program that was weeks from going production witj the mid-70s Monza. Not well known, but true. It was a 2 rotor, while the Vette was a 4 rotor program.

The Holden brand was/is under the GM umberella... Holden released a Rotary version of their Premier called the Road Pacer - I recall one coming up for sale a couple of years back (complete with factory refrigerator in the trunk)

It was fitted with a Mazda 13b

Mazda Roadpacer and Parkway Bus

Technically, that's not accurate. Holden supplied the cars to Mazda who fitted the 13b to them completely for JDM consumption. GM did a few prototypes in Corvette bodies, but GM never released a rotor. The Earls court car still exists and has an original motor but not it's original motor.
Don't get me started on that series and model Holden - they were rubbish! I drove a lot of kilometers in one! Not even a 13b and a Mazda badge could make me want one. Crusher fodder! As that article calls it - "Toadracer"!

Just imagine if Mustang and Corvette had been made with Rotarys. History would be so fucked up right now lol.
