My as well keep everyone updated on mods. I snagged a pic of the center console. Just in case anyone was interested

under the pine console there is a stock rx7 boot, screwed down to a piece of phenalic(?) (cuttng board) which is used to seal up the old hole in the trans tunnel. Overall, it gives a good home style feeling in the car with the wooden steering wheel, and console.

Also, might be making a wooden shift **** on my dads lathe, he's gotten into making bowls recently, so this shouldnt be too hard, just got to find an insert to match the threads of the existing shifter.

Ill keep postin pics if people are still interested.

Hahah, Wood is all i got. I didnt want to find some plastic either. Because the driveshaft isnt balanced yet, everything in the car shakes like crazy. So the less plastic crap the better, and i didnt have any metal for machining.

Im fitting a wood bumper on today (Cant wait to post pics of that) Im using hammered spraypaint which will give it the desired texture i want. I ony needa bumper that looks like a bumper to get thru inspection, then i can take it off if i want. Heres the paint ill be using

If i get it done at a reasonable time tonight, ill take pics of the before and after bumper. Although, i dont have a bumper on it now, its just the back of the car with holes.

Later

Im actually not really in the mood to sell it anymore. Once the driveshaft is ballanced, after i get it thru inspection. I know this will be one sweet ride, then everything else is just performance mods. I deffinately dont enjoy it as a daily driver, but everytime i do take it out, and get it over 8000 rpm i remember why i like the car. So its like a love and hate relationship with it. I dunno, you guys probably have similar situations with projects.

I know more people wanted a bigger pic of the rims on the car so here is one

Id like to sell these btw, and get more of a stock look going.

$1100 obo.

Rims are 15x7 114.3 offset The are Replica Work Equip rims with brand new tires, only put about 200 miles on them.

Installed the new wood bumper haha, its funny reading that after i typed it.

First we sized up the situation, you can see where the old mounts used to go in on the bottom of the body

These were the pieces i had to work with: Ended up cutting the smaller piece into two pieces to wedge inside the old mount holes

Spraypainted the parts using The spraypaint shown above (Next time im just using regualr black spraypaint, there was no need to buy this stuff)

U can see here how the paint looks when its almost dry

Using two screws on each side we attached the larger piece "bumper" to the two smaller pieces coming out from the body

And the finished Product

Didnt turn out too bad i suppose.

I was just some wood, a few screws, and some paint. Why ever spend 400$ on a real chrome bumper again?

you might be going to farr now.

I bet most would rather see a gutted loook than the type of things you have been doing.

The wooden shifter sorround isnt as bad. But i say give the bumper another try. And try harder!!

On the 1.8 if you can get that 8 off and work the left side of the 8 it will become a 3. so it will say 1.3. ( i forget its a 12a) but w/e

JUst more creativity.

well....Last year i went thru 5 240sx's a gti, mustang, and a monte carlo. So...i go thru cars pretty fast. I have my daily driver 88 Ford festiva, super low miles, and mint. And this corolla.

As long as i dont get bored with a project, i keep it.

Sorry you dont dig my cheap fixes Junito1. But i have to work with what i got. I am just gonna remove the 1.8 badge all together. Was thinking about getting rid of the rxolla badge as well, but ill keep it for a bit.

Took some videos of the car with my girlfriends help

First an exhaust noise, this way i can compare it to later
And here is a 0-57 or so Had to cut the video short, but you can see 60mph is about 1 or 2 oclock.

Here is a drive by, hoping that i could hear what the exhaust sounds like

So that was the good news above this post.

But....right after the videos were taken, on my way back to my apartment "without my knowledge" the fan/alternator/water pump belt shreded itself. Temperature skyrocketed up to 250deg. I got the car home, parked it, and let it cool.

I pulled the dip stick, and compressed air nearly blew it in my face. Smoke was coming from the coil filler tube. And my radiator hoses where near to burst.

I let the car cool for about 20 minutes, and tried to start it just to see if there was compression, it was at 160deg by now. And it fired up without any problems. But then i shut it off right after, and ill buy an new belt, and see if it runs again tommorow.

NORMALY DRIVING TEMP FOR ME IS NORMALLY 190 deg.

I went up to 250 and above.

I feel terrible. But i did it to myself.

So ill update everyone tommorow on if it runs or if its dead.

SO UPDATE

Not sure if anyone is still following this, but the 12a is fine. A lil smoke at start up, but then it went away.

Driving was normal, temp was normal, i didnt use any antifreeze, and oil was fine.

Im just amazed that after maxing out my temp gauge that its still fine.

I have more faith in the rotary now.

Its a very durable motor.
