23mpg would be amazing! I'm getting like 13 or 14 at best.... I'm getting really upset with my engine. going to try to get the carb tuned better (I have some friends that aren't carb retards like I am) and whatever else I can think of or learn to make it better.

it appears that one of my CV's bound up and made me loose control of my car... the drive line kinked real bad and ruined the gas tank and exhaust while heavily modifying the trans tunnel and ripping the transmission mount out of the factory slots on the body... yea, I'm just lucky I didn't hit anyone. I was passing my friend, then I hear a really bad noise, followed by tire noise and metal on pavement noise, then I did a 360 infront of my friend's bug that has crappy drum brakes, came out of the 360, and kind of did a drift onto the shoulder of the road. it took two tow trucks to recover it. a regular one to get it on the road, and a flat bed to get it into town...

here's a few carnage pics, I should have pics of the scene of the accident soon.

it's going to be a little while till I fix this I think...

Wholly sweet **** man!!!!!! What a mess, glad you are okay. I can't believe all the damage, I would have figured the CV would have just torn apart before twisting the drive shaft and tearing up the car! I can only imagine the noise that accompanied that damage. I've never see that before.

thanks, yea, it was a pretty horrific experience, the seriousness of it didn't really sink in for me for a while either. I was pretty calm after it happened, my friends were frantically worried. I'm glad I had great friends to help me get the car home, my friend's AAA paid for the two tow trucks it required.

on to more positive things,

The resurrection begins!

trans mount:

on the trans:

Notice the plating over the stock mounting location that failed me during the whole life changing incident.

with the tabs welded on the car to hold it all up, I also added a bit more weld between the body of the car and the stock mounting area for more contact... if there is ever another problem, my work once again will not fail, but the floor will bend, or the car will tear itself a new one. I just have to keep reminding myself that it's not a rock crawler like my truck.

thanks. yea, I miss the car so much! I can't wait to get it going again. I was thinking about it, and I think that my drive line may have kinked itself and caused the whole thing rather than the CV binding. let that be a lesson, don't run hack drive lines! although my crawler toyota still has a hack drive line... but I don't drive it over 60 mph and it's not as bad as what my bimmer had.

I like the hanging piston from the rear tow hook. In the first set of pics I thought you had one of those hanging set of nut sacks on the back of your car. The piston is much better. You should help your friend put a rotary in his bug.

thanks, I also think the piston is better than truck nutz. I would never put truck nuts on anything I own.... and a rotary bug would be pretty interesting!

I couldn't see the new fuel gauge if I mounted it on the panel I already had in the car, so I took out all the climate controls and made a new gauge panel.

climate control is for the weak anyways.

some progress on cleaning the engine bay, I got rid of a bunch of brackets, and hid some wires. Now I really want to hide the factory fuse/relay box, just haven't figured out how to do that yet.

going to stay partially primered until I one day pull the engine.

I think I'm just going to make a cover to go over this non-sense.

did someone leave a sandwich in my rain tray?

nope, that's just the fuse block for my engine stuff..

and a couple pics of the skid marks I left during the incident that started all this new work on the car:

I'm only cleaning up the engine bay because I'm waiting on a drive line adapter to be made, then I'll be waiting to have a drive line made.. and my fuel cell is on back order.... I figured I might as well be productive with other stuff in the mean time.

the drive line adapter is near completion:

I've just got to get it on a lathe and make room for it to clear the pinion on the BMW side of things. the Mazda side is perfect though. Also, it needs some counter sinks and some bolts. Just wanted to show what it was so far since many of you were probably curious about how the drive line was going to be legit. I was fortunate enough to have a fellow member of my car club design this for me, but I had to pay a premium for the machine work... worth it to not have my car loose control like that again though.

completed drive line adapter:

the sub frame was going to be a problem, so I notched it:

fuel cell:

the fuel lines are routed through the factory tube in the car that the factory vent hoses went though, it's a straight shot to the send and return line here. Very convenient.

drive line: it had to be upsized from the 2.5" tube an RX 7 would run to a 3" tube because of the length so it wouldn't whip and kink like the old one did. it has some kind of dodge slip yoke at the front which fits into the RX7 trans perfectly, at the back is an RX7 yoke, but there is a machined sleeve to make it fit the 3" tube.

quick and dirty drive line safety strap:

exhaust:

My car is alive again!!!!

I wired up the factory tach, it will do 8k with no trouble at all.

thanks! yea, it is mounted from the front cover. mounting the engine to the sub frame like the M10 was wasn't really feasible, so I plated the stock "frame rails" and just built mounts off that like what the 4x4 guys do.

there is a lot of updatage on this car, I haven't been on here in forever. it's broken again though. I snagged a man hole cover with the sub frame. lol. perhaps I'll post more details about that later. I hope to have it back on the road real soon!
