Well, it depends on what year it is, whether or not it has the dealer optional A/C, if it is molested, etc., etc.

You can learn alot by listening in on the REPU forum (mazdarepu.com). If you're asking just to buy it and flip it, your location may or may not hurt you in your sale. Typically, a running, overall good condition unmolested REPU with no rust will usually garner at least $2000-2500 as a starting point (immaculate *mint* survivors or restored trucks can sell well over $10,000), but alot of people that get on the repu forum and say they want a truck then scoff at paying very little for a project. Seems too many of the younger folks that haven't been around the vintage stuff for very long expect to get a mint condition one owner truck for a few hundred bucks, or on the other hand, they are trying to sell a cobbled together POS and want $5k+ for it just because it has a Holley and MSD boxes on it. Obviously, these poeple just aren't realistic. All of the REPU guys usually need parts if nothing else. Shoot me a PM if you decide against buying it- I may be interested in it to add to the fleet.

well the repu that i found in the junkyard is slightly molested (i mean damn its in a junk yard), but cosmetically looks good and sound. (not sure of the a/c)

however the junk yard is only wanting 500 bucks...

how many repu's were built all total?

Talking

Production figures for the entire run (1974-1977) is between 15,000 and 16,000 units. Just because it's in a junkyard does not mean it would be molested. Most of the original owners did not do much of any mods to these trucks it seems, as they were not bought to be "hopped up". They were bought for what they were- the most powerful, most unique and one of the neatest looking mini trucks available on the market at the time. It did get a reputation for being a little hot rod from the factory due to it's sporty performance, but I don't think that's why the bulk of them were bought. They could handle more payload and pull heavier loads than most any other mini truck of the time, and they weren't priced out of the ballpark, either.

At $500, I'd probably buy it and ship it here to Michigan, even as a parts truck. Let me know if you don't buy it.

If you don't buy it, you will have a mob after you.

Post pictures when you get it. Finding one of these trucks running in good condition is harder than finding a 57 Corvette.

If you don't buy it then give a forum member the location so it goes to a good owner.

Aren't there like 1200-1500 REPUs ever brought to the U.S.?

Dude, buy that **** RIGHT ******* NOW! The thing's a classic, and I only dream of ever finding one around here in ANY condition, much less no rust and straight body. that's the msot important in a classic car. The rest is replaceable.

No, many more than that. The entire production run (1974-1977 model years) was between 15,000-16,000 total units built.

lol, that's about the same as FD's, with 13,000 registered or something like that.

But seeing as to how the trucks are a lot older, and were never cared for the way a sports car usualy is, I would not be surprised if there was still only like 5,000 registered, or even left over from all these years!

I can easily see a fully restored repu going for like $200,000 on Barret Jackson in another 15 years.

I doubt there are more than 1000 registered. As a comparison of sorts I ride a Yamaha GTS1000, less than 1000 were ever imported to north america in 93-94. In my travels both locally and around the country I see more of them that I do REPU's. When you think about it bikes generally get fewer miles put on them each year and are more likely to be crashed/totaled than a car or truck. My guess would be that 500 registered is even pushing it.
