REPU Lighting Upgrades
Who here has upgrading the lighting for their REPU beyond just replacing the bulbs for modern ones?
I'm planning a nearly 2,000 mile road trip next year for going to Seven Stock and it will obviously involve some night driving. To say the light output of the stock headlights is poor would be a gross understatement; probably doesn't help my daily has awesome HIDs.
Seeing the HID kits for FD's got me thinking, and after lots of looking on https://www.theretrofitsource.com I'm thinking of taking a stab at retrofitting HIDs in my REPU. Has anyone here attempted this? Could the stock headlight housings be used or am I looking at all new headlights (which would suck).
Or is there an alternative to HIDs that I'm overlooking that should be good for the occasional night drive? I'd say 97% of my normal driving will be during the day.
Thanks!

I went H4 on my Rx2 for the simplicity over HID, and the really ugly HID 5 3/4 lights on the market. I used a Dapperlighting.com harness which is a straight plug and play harness, including the relays, 4 Amazon original looking glass 5 3/4 lights, and some Phillips bulbs. All up around $130. Lighting is on par with my modern Honda Accord daily driver.

Although HIDs sound nice, I bet the biggest problem is your wiring. Like most old cars, there are no relays for the headlights. Power comes from the fuse box straight through the steering column and then on to the lights through 40 year old wiring. First, upgrade your alternator and beef up the gauge wire to the fuse box. Second, put some relays inline so high current isn't going through the column.
