Rebuilding a '76 13b

I was wonder what I should be looking for while rebuilding this engine. It is from a cosmo rx-5. There is some scuffing on the inside of the rotary chamber (pic included). I was told this was from the initial break in period. Everything else on the engine is in good shape. Could this cause problems later on? ANy other questions please ask.

I've got a '76 Cosmo and I bet it's in similar shape to your engine. That exhaust port looks like it needs to be enlarged a little. Otherwise if the chrome looks good, just measure for crush and if it's ok, reuse 'em. Clean out the rust though for sure though.

I am with Jeff. Check to see if the housing is in tolerence and go with it.
You do appear to have a little bit of water jacket corrosion though.

Well when I finally got it apaer I noticed all the crap in it.... The thing had been sitting for at least 10 years when I found it in the garage and was really happy beacuse I originally thought it was a 12a then clean it off and whoah a 13b schweet. I was goign to get the rebuild kit from racing beat but I was goign to check out the tolerances beforehand. I just wanted to know if anyone had seen anything like this before. Thanks guys.

Hey guys, I was just wondering if you could help me with somehting.

How would you get rid of rust in that area? What would you use? (apart from a pressure washer that is)

Take 'em to a radiator shop and have 'em hot-tanked. Make sure their solution is safe for aluminum (most are nowadays). The housings come out nice and clean and shiny, inside and out. Some chrome plating places have the same capability, but are usually more expensive.

hey, just on the condition of the chrome plating, I have a few workshop manuals for RX-4/5 (cosmo is RX-5 here in in oz) and also 1st gen RX-7, and they only say replace the part if scoring of the chrome is excessive, but doesnt tell what excessive is??

I also have a replacement criteria manual, which says the housings are reuseable as long as the scratches are less than 0.02mm (0.0008 in) deep. and also if the chrome plating is chipped off at the edges, it is reusable if less than 2mm (0.08in) so looking at youre pics, the housings look fine to be reused
