Radiator Cap problems and questions

Ok guys, need your help. After some hard driving yesterday, I popped the hood to see some coolant on the top radiator sill. Looked like the cap was leaking a little. Said "fine", new cap time. The cap I had said 13lbs. and worked fine up to now so I replaced with another 13lb. from kragan (prestone brand). Drove hard today, popped hood....leaking worse!!!

So, am I not using the right pundage of cap? What else could cause this problem?
What pound caps are you running...should I just go get a factory cap from the dealer?

Hmm, that's an odd one.. I believe my cap is a 13lb. as well, but I have a fairly stock 12A and RX-4 radiator. Perhaps the overflow tank line is plugged somehow? Was it running hot? Sounds like something might be plugged/restricted somewhere.

Nope....running at 188 degrees all day with plenty of throttle....but it is really hot and humid in LA right now. All lines are cool as well, no blockage. THe leaking is coming from under the cap too....I'm pretty stumped.

when i had my 88 RX7 mildly modded, i bought an expensive cap and i blew it a few times, then i went back to my stock one and didnt have a problem. so you might try a stock one. not really sure. maybe jsut too much pressure in your system?

would too much pressure in the system be caused by air in the system?

if you have an aftermarket water temp gauge, then I would say you have a bad cap. but if its stock, then I would do more such as getting a new radiator or get a rod out. I will be at Ricks & Ronnies this weekend for the old school bash. See ya there. Free diagnose for a pack of heine.
