R100 Find

Here is my latest find up here in Canada, Its a 1971 Mazda R100 circuit car , After searching for 2 years for a shell that I could turn into a circuit car ( As wanted to find a shell so was not destroying another R100 ) When I was told of this one which happened to be 10 miles from my house Found out it had been sitting in a shed for 12 years , Every thing there except motor and box , So rang the guy ,Well he was a little suprised to get a phone call about the car and said to give him a few days , rang back next week and asked what he wanted for it , He responded " It has sat in my shed for the last 10 years and well hell will freeze over before I sell it cheap " Any way after a few more talks with him I went to see the car , After digging through the shed we found the R100 in the back , Trying not to show my excitement as I looked at her and asked how much ?
$1500 I almost fell over ............... Raced to the nearest atm and gave him the cash , One week later I picker her up ,
Its got a full cage , coil over front suspension adjustable camber tops some sort of moded front brakes with cooling tubes from front bumper piped into the back of disk , rx4 oil cooler and large rad , full wiring ( was running a 12a back in the day ) locked diff with extended length leafs re tensioned , so sits really nice , running 13''x9''x240 slicks all round , fibre glass flares molded off a Mazda factory spa race car , custom one piece front , fully striped interior lexan side windows custom race dash , standard fuel tank with massive fuel pump running into a serge tank , custom rear wing .
Every thing ready for motor and box ,
Im going to be running a 10a bridge pp , 48 ida custom intake manofold lightned and re balanced rotors and rotating assembly , to a raceing beat 13b lightned fly wheel clutch and pressure plate , prob a rx4 bell houseing and still looking for a box .
want a factory close ratio 4 speed race box , but if i cant find one will look at a rx8 box
Looking at getting all lexan front and rear wind sheilds from Australia for it
Hope to have it all up and running buy next summer
thes shed I found her in had to cut down a tree so we could open the doors

On the truck on her way home

My goodness.... That sht is definitely a sweet find! Keep us updated. But why the 10a? Parts are even harder for that motor to find.

Parts are hard to find yes , Im the owner of 5 10a engines and have a whole lot of spares for 10a's so things should not be to bad .Also as im originaly from New Zealand/Australia im I know where to find these parts ;o)
Every one always gets R100's and drops in 12a's and 13b's the 10a is to be different , Im aiming to get 180+hp out of it and as they are rated as 1 litre I should be able to get into a lower rated race class prob the 1600cc class insteard of the 2L class with a 12a setup , With the 10a you can pull mad revs too hope to get 13,000rmp out of mine

The shell is mint only really minor surface rust and a small dent in drivers door other than that it just needs a rub back and a coat of fresh paint , which it will be getting very soon , will keep every one updated with more pictures on my progress

Man I am so jealous, I own an R100 but that beauty is hidden treasure
I might be convinced to make some 10A ceramic seals if you are interested. Might be a bit down the road but I could be persuaded Would also depend on whether we have the proper radius wheels for a 6mm seal.
Pm me if you want to talk more about it.

My father used to race with the original owner/builder of the car, his name is Toivo. Car used to be solid bright red. I have a series of photos of that car during a pit stop running the six hour enduro in Portland OR back in the eighties. Send me a pm and I will send them to you.

Toivo built this beauty? He is a very good man, I recently sponsored him with a special deal on some ceramic apex seals. I will have to check back with him on the seals anyhow so this will be something else we can talk about

Definetly send me the pics! I'll drop you a pm with my e address.
Regards, Sven

I may have pics of this car too, from portland when it was red and from Westwood during an Atlantice weekend back in 1990. I hope I can still find the pictures!!!!

That car was unique in 1990!!!!!
