Possible to build a 1 rotor?

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone knows how to, or has built a single rotary engine? Or any resources for it, don't ask why I want to do it, if I finish it, i will have pictures. If anyone has done it, and for some weird reason had to the urge to dyno it, what HP did it push?

I just want to get one working that would be able to run outside of a car, so no electronics or anything like that, just a carb and a motor that works with 1 rotor.

anyone have any ideas?

yea I've been thinking about that too. I think all you wouldn need is a coustom eshaft and use the front iron and rear..and maybe elimate one of the stationary gears or run both

snowmobiles guys!

There were like 4 or 5 different models of snowmobiles with single rotor rotary engines, but they were all aircooled, maybe you could take one of there journal shafts and adapt as required?

I'm sure you guys heard of SuperTrapp..... In addition to that invention, htis guy has a few other tricks...

including a one rotor motor......

check-out
www.moller.com and freedommotors.com as they have developed a one rotor years ago..... In fact if you have a few extra bucks.... this could be the next MicroSoft...
At least an interesting read... lots of info to ponder!!

Use the front side of the engine, machine the rear lobe off of the eccentric shaft so that you can fit the rear plate over it. Cut the 'gear' off of the rear stationary gear, leaving the flange and bearing side. Tap an oil hole the eccentric shaft for the new location of the rear bearing.

To connect it to a tranny, prolly the easiest thing to do is attach a chain driven gear to an old motorcycle trans. Or if its just straight to the wheels, a nice heavy duty centrifugal clutch

Best of luck

this idea actualy has been done a couple of times with motorcycles, Suzuki used a single rotor wankle and even mass produced it... The Suzuki RE-5
check this out

(let everything load and have your volume up... then click on the pic)

I was thinking no usings the tranny and just connecting a sporicket to the eccentric shaft

Exactly, because there is no way that its going to bog down. And if you geared it as close to 1:1 as possible, you could do roughly 60mph with tires with 1ft circumfrence, and thats a small damn tire. If you geared it right and used the right wheel size, i bet it would be possible of getting 80+mph out of it, with the sprocket straight to the e-shaft.

If you ever figure out how to do it, let me know.

edit : What would could I do about fuel delivery and spark though? Since there won't really be much room on the kart if I want it to look normal. How would I go about giving it spark to the plugs and fuel to the carb? I a battery? A weird alternator setup?

All I figured out would be a weird alternator set up to power the fuel pump and to get power to the coils for spark, or is there another way to do it?

I've never really messed with engines much, and barely know how they work.

howstuffworks.com read up

Use a small motorcycle battery, fab up a custom bracket to use a single wire hookup alternator or try hooking up a small dynamo directly to the engine output to recharge the battery. Carb engines are low pressure fuel systems, mount a small tank above the height of the carb and you should be fine. Spark in a carb setup is easy, all you basically need is a dizzy, coils, battery and an ignitor... All really small and easy to mount.

I have a 72 Arctic Cat Panther with a 303 single rotor air cooled engine. It starts first pull every time and brap brap braps all day long. Itll only do about 30mph, but its perfect for ice fishing

I would also like to do a single rotor engine some day. The ignition would obviously be special (late leading).
