They're 14s, and don't let Downing tell you it's been in storage for the last 12 years. He rebuilt it and was driving it in Atlanta a few months ago before putting the decals on it. It IS his old car, though, and got an RX-4 13B in 75 and has been largely original since.

I know for a fact this car has been owned by Wayne Graham for at least 1.5 years and has been in the shop at Mariah Motorsports all that time being restored to gtu specs. Last I heard Wayne was planning on campaining it in the HSR-West Under 2 liter Challange series.

That car ran in IMSA RS (Racing Stock) class, not GTU. Rx3 got 12a bridgeports with 4bbl Nikki carb. My Mazda Motorsports book says it was the last Rx3 to win in IMSA RS, in 1983 @ Daytona. And has a picture of it.

And that is one damn nice car.

Okay. Then Jim Downing has a red vintage-13B'd RX3 as well. I just figured that since his name was on there that it was the same red 3 I've seen driving around. I stand corrected.

As MAXPESCE says... the car has been in the Mariah Motorsport garage for the last year and half, and previously in Dave Jolly's barn for 12+ years. Wayne Graham was an owner on the car, when it ran in the IMSA RS series. He finally bought back about 2 years ago from Dave Jolly, and got it back to the running condition you see in the pics.

CRIT you "might" be speaking of the IMSA GTU RX-2 that Jim just put back together for Rob W. this one:

Need to be careful when talking Mazda vintage racers

I know that Jim D. also has a few other RX-3s, but this is not the one you're thinking of.

Cheers,

-Bern

No, Jim actually just beat me to the windshield for that car.... thanks for bringing back painful memories. But no, he has a red RX-3 with old housings, a cage, and nearly everything else is original.
