Old Mazda 1800 Found

Anybody restoring a 1970-72 Mazda 1800? Found this one in a wrecking yard. The old girl has seen better days but offers a few usuable parts. One of the best looking sedans Mazda ever made. About the size of a RX-4. Styling by Bertone of Italy. Super rare in N. America. The Coupe was offered with Rotary Power (13A) with front wheel drive but never sold in U.S.

Interesting. Looks a lot like a BMW 2002 but without the ugly grille. Might be a good sleeper candidate. I'm thinking 20B...

I know where there is a fairly complete 1800 wagon in a junkyard here. I really like the styling of the 1800, especially the grille opening, very Italian.

Me and a friend own a LHD ex.Canada 1800 estate & a 1500 SS sedan both to be converted to 20B & 13B bridge port respectively.

Update: The junkyard with the 1800 wagon was on the news last night. Seems they had a fire that destroyed a bunch of cars. The name of the junkyard is A&A on Greenhill road just outside of Eugene. Their # is 541-689-6115. Maybe they still have it.

Oh my GOD the R130 Luce coupes are beautiful...the only front-wheel drive rotary EVER, even rarer because it used the 13a.

There was a Luce Rotary Coupe (R130) on display at Sevenstock last year. Hope it is there again this year. Not many were made as the price tag in 1970 was over $5000. They came fully loaded including a/c , power windows and power steering (a rarity on early rotaries). If you can find a copy of the July 1970 Road Test magazine you'll find a complete road test and review.

I have a '71 1800 wagon. It's complete, daily driven, and in decent shape. I am thinking about selling it.

Almost true. You may not have heard of it, but the Soviets apparently were fascinated by rotaries. There has been a rotary Lada Samara that I think was produced for the local highway patrol for some time. The only real problem was the rebuild interval, which was less than 20000 km (12500 miles), thanks to inferior materials.

Incidentally, Soviet rotaries had the same size rotors as Mazda's 13B and 20B.
