next gen rx-7 pic

"It's been close to a decade since the last RX-7 was produced. Feast your eyes on the picture below. What you see is a never before seen picture of the new RX-7. The famous rotary engine will be used but they will be doing a full upgrade to produce more horsepower. The design of the car, shown below, looks a lot different from the last generation RX-7 but it still retains certain styling cues."

"The new engine in development should produce over 280hp -- well in competition range for the 350Z. The new engine might have a new type of rotary system. Suspension and frame may also be borrowed from the RX-8. The competition is ready, but now it's Mazda's turn to show the public the potential of the new RX-7. "

Thumbs up

Looks pretty damn good--much better than the RX-8. I'm interested, although I'll never sell my R1

The last FD that came out was last year. I think the 99 specs were 280HP. I think our FD's stock could still kick the crap out of a 350Z. Don't forget our cars are still lighter than the 350Z too.

I dont believe it.
Perhaps the sketch is real, but saying they are going to message the Renesis motor to only produce an additional 30HP more N/A than the RX8??
I would think IF they did do another RX7 that perhaps they would turbo the 250HP Renesis. *There will be an aftermarket turbo kit for the RX8
The 350z has alot of big power adding options now (TT kit, Supercharger..)
So add a 'safe' 8psi to the Renesis and you could have a ~350HP car.

Um... the 350Z, Z06, and others have been out for a bit now. By the time Mazda comes out with this car that will *barely* compete with them, Chevy and Nissan et al will have upgraded.... it'll be typical Mazda too little too late. Until i start hearing 400 hp stock, i'm not interested. Thats what it takes these days.

Umm... yeah, i dont think thats gonna happen... The only people who would by the rx8 are pretty much rotary enthuisasts... And who in their right mind would buy the rx8 if that rx7 was in production? You gotta give Mazda a little more credit than that.

It actually makes alot of sense. Look at the 350Z's amazing success. It even outsells the C5. Since there is a good market for a 2 seat sportscar, *AND* Mazda has built a new platform and new engine. This new engine is used in 1 car, if they can use the platform and engine (or atleast a highly tuned renesis) across the line they will make more money.

Many will not buy an rx7 cause it has only 2 seats, and many will not by the rx8 cause it has 4. They are different cars, for different markets.

The rx7 *OR* a similar car by a different name will be offered by Mazda. But not until the Rx-8 is established.
