nice project. i liked these 626s and would definitely put a rotary in it if i had one. i remember several moons ago, when i was a young, cocky kid with an Rx-7, i lined up against one of these cars with a 12A in it, and - long story, short - i got burned by it! he got off the line and there was nothing i could do to pull him back in. period.

i wish you success in completing this and can't wait to see it.

Thanks! I can't wait to finish it either, but at the same time I do not want to rush anything. My wife and son always come along to meets and trips and my SA (with 91 rx7 rear seat) just doesn't cut it anymore, so I want the the car to be as dependable as possible.

Awaiting for ordered paint materials for engine compartment and wheel wells. Not much of an update, but it's the best I can do for now!

Well my paint materials are all in, now all I have to do is a notch on the engine bay driverside compact for better clearance of 2nd gen A/C compressor before re-painting engine bay and front wheel wells. I've been set back helping friends with their projects (86 n/a converted to turbo2 and 74 rx4 niether one is showing their progress on rx7 club), but thats what friends are all about!

Removed my Rx8 wheels from storage to remove stock 245/40/18 tires and replace with some that will fit wheelwell of my rx626. In the process the wife decided she wanted them on our Mazda MPV i just hope I didn't loose them!

Check out this video I uploaded from a Old School meet in West Palm Beach Florida on 09/26/10, The Rx626 in this video is not mine. It is not the best of quality but, I hope everyone enjoys.

Oh it is not lack of inspiration on my behalf, but lack of funds on his behalf. Lol, hoping I can get finish on his this week. Your car is mighty nice. Where are you located? I suppose you wouldn't mind me asking questions as I go along on my build if I ever get going again some day. Also what all have you done to your car other than the turbo2 conversion? Please post more pics. Thanks, LuisGT

Thanks, but sorry no more pics till shes done. As of now it has a t2 block, t2 trans, and gsl-se rearend with coil-over se front suspension. It looks more done in the pic than it really is, its still in the mock-up stage. I did notice yours is a automatic and you said your going to convert. Do you have a pedal box from a manual? Or you going to do custom pedals? Also whats in your plans for the rearend? The rx7 dont bolt in and the stocker is a strange one with a offset diff, one axle really long the other really short. The only lsd diff that might work with that setup is 83 small axle gsl diff.

Mine was automatic and I converted to manual by removing stock pedals from pedal assembly and installing rx7 1st gen pedals/pass through long bolt n shims. I also welded to pedal assembly the rx7 pedal assembly spring that returns clutch pedal back(it is either that or a dampner of some sort). As far as the rear end I have a gslse casing that will be custom fitted to the 626 and will enclose a gslse lsd 4.77 Kia 7" third member and Re-speed 5x114.3 moser axles and turbo 2 big brake conversion. Four link setup will be beefed up as well and adjustable. 626 will be riding on rx8 wheels. I will move to that part once the engine compartment and front suspension is complete. Oh and your correct with the stock rear end it does work with a 83 gsl small axle lsd, because when I first got it I installed one and as a matter of fact it is still installed.

I wish I could have been present, but I made it as far as Pompano Beach. I took my 79 SA and my air cleaner stub came loose and fell inside the engine and killed it. I then had to catch a ride with my brother to pick up my minivan and towbar back in Palm Bay so that I could haul my car back the following day. I had seen this car in an Old School Meet in West Palm, but no one could tell me who owned it. Directfreak do you own it?

No. I saw it at the Markham Park/Churassco meet. Looks like a sleeper. Should be real nice when fully painted.

Your right. I wouldn't mind meeting the owner of this car?
