Has to do with the factory emissions system. It has a thermal reactor instead of catalytic converters like most modern cars. I'm not 100% sure on the function of the small pipe, I need to read the repair manual to fully understand the system.
I had some time this weekend to spend on the car. Finally took it out for its first drive. Car works really well just have to do some tuning on the secondary side of the carb. I also got the rest of the seats cleaned.
WOW, what a find!!!!! Do you know any history on this car? How did you come across it? Its in such original and unmolested condition, you sir found a true diamond. Do you think that the tires that come on the car are original?

I found out about the car about 7 or 8 years ago when I was building my other rx4. I needed some parts for my car and a friend told me about this car and that the guy had a ton of parts as well. We went to his house and spent a few hours looking at his cars and chatting with him. He had no intentions of ever selling the car at that time, but I did get a few parts that I needed from him. Fast forward to now, and he finally decided he would never get around to the car and decided to sell it. The car is all original, I am the second registered owner. I have all of the history and documentation for the car right down to the original ownership from 1975 and the bill of sale when it was purchaced new from the dealer in London Ontario.
As you can see the car is a 1974 model, but was purchaced in june of 1975 with 1148 miles on it. I'm assuming the car was used by an employee of the dealership then sold as a demonstrator vehicle.
This is the used vehicle package that you get from the government when you transfer a used vehicle into your name. As you can see only one previous owner.
As for the tires, they are the correct size and seem to appear like the ones in the sales brochure. No where in the brochure does it give a specific brand of tire that the car was equiped with. They do look the same though.
Got the car working great finally. Turned out the secondary throttle plates were actually stuck shut. Now that they are free the car runs great and pulls hard. Its off to the body shop tomorrow to have a few little issues fixed and to buff and polish the original paint back to a shine.
Got my car back from the body shop. Joe did great work as always. Just a little teaser shot. I want to do a full clean, detail, and wax. More pics to come soon.
