G'day
I took Morrx for a little run down the track(Stuart Highway) today to stretch its legs after being cooped up on a truck for the last week. Two firsts occurred Morrx passed its first road train ( truck towing 3 trailers) and exceeded 110kph legally. The road train was easy they only do 100 and Morrx was nice and stable at a legal 130, just over 3000 on the tacho, water temp and oil pressure good, air con nice and cool. Cheers Graham :):) |

G'day
The car is now officially MORRX, registered in the Territory this morning with out any trouble. Morrx in the Autumn sun with the Timor sea in the background http://i53.tinypic.com/2rcpgjq.jpg MORRX at home in Wanguri http://i56.tinypic.com/29etbbm.jpg Cheers Graham :):) |
Looks hot. How hot there?
|
When the pictures were taken it would have been about 30C later it got to about 32C tonight it will get down to about 20C. This is our winter 28 to 30 degrees then down to 13C (coldest ever recorded) to 20C at night.
The joys of the tropics, that is why the MORRX has air con for when it gets hot, mainly in the summer when it gets a bit humid. Cheers Graham :):) |
G'day
MORRX went to its first NT car show today. https://i52.tinypic.com/i6dwzp.jpg It was sponsored by Shannon's and Repco who were having a promotion on some car cleaning products they have just released, these were the prizes for the different categories they had. I think in some categories they only had one car, especially in the "Unfinished project " group because they gave it to Morrx or maybe they just thought it needed a wash. Anyway it was a surprise to win something, Morrx's first. http://i56.tinypic.com/2i1z4a9.jpg http://i56.tinypic.com/2jdjnky.jpg The only Morry but not the only forum menmber https://i55.tinypic.com/25582hf.jpg Nor the only rotary https://i53.tinypic.com/25anr0j.jpg A bit of everything really https://i52.tinypic.com/2i0drnn.jpg https://i55.tinypic.com/23thvsy.jpg Cheers Graham :):) |
Hey awesome car man! Congrats on the trophy, well deserved!

G'day
Morrx went to a car show yesterday, no other Morrie but a few interesting cars. Hot and humid so glad of the aircon. going and on the way home. Morrx, Hot rod, V8 Capri, RX2, 302 Cobra. https://i54.tinypic.com/k4703t.jpg A nice RX2 coupe https://i51.tinypic.com/t7ilqs.jpg A well done EH wagon with a 3.8 and hair dryer. https://i51.tinypic.com/10n9d8o.jpg https://i55.tinypic.com/3520t3m.jpg An original Shelby GT500 among the Fords https://i54.tinypic.com/10qkioj.jpg Cheers Graham :):) |

http://i42.tinypic.com/2lc09xj.jpg The little blue air filter in the middle is on the air pump, which was refitted this week. The air pressure from it is used to open the secondary ports, the Variable dynamic effect intake (VDI) system apart from anti pollution things. What it all means is that the engine can not operate properly or develop full power with out the air pump. It was taken off by someone who should have known this as he built the engine. The 13B out of the series 4 RX7 used vacuum to operate these systems but the series 5 engine ,which was a redesign, develops more power and uses the airpump pressure. Now when the secondary injectors come in (3500) the ports open and the engine gets stronger and spins through to 7000, if you let it. Under 3500 there is no effect so torque is not effected and the engine pulls strongly off the line. The moral to the story is do not believe what you are told, do some research your self. If I had read the manual earlier this would have been identified and fixed long ago. Cheers Graham :):) |
G'day
Tomorrow is the third anniversary of my buying what has become MORRX. It has been on the road for a bit over a year now and is slowly getting the way I want it. As it was when I bought it https://i41.tinypic.com/n6ox8h.jpg https://i27.tinypic.com/2n01q1l.jpg Now https://i40.tinypic.com/34i2xr5.jpg https://i53.tinypic.com/2rcpgjq.jpg Cheers Graham :):) |
G'day HAPPY NEW YEAR
I have finally changed the passengers glove box lid to match the drivers side, now all I have to do is have it repainted and sort out the switches and the dash will be finished. https://i43.tinypic.com/4q0h38.jpg The problem ,which caused the delay, was that its hinges were on the bottom requiring that it be bolted/screwed on the under side of the dash unfortunately the air con was in the way. A mate, at home, came up with a solution to make up new hinges attaching to the old mounting points then stepping down to the bottom of the door with the hinge there, it works a treat. He dose not even have a Morrie, just a ww2 Ford Jeep, Bullet Mustang and an Austin Healey 100/4. https://i41.tinypic.com/n4728y.jpg I finally had his idea turned into reality at Axe Welding/Giddy up Horse floats in Drysdale a very helpful man who was able to re use, with some modification, the bracket/hinges that were on the door. He only has a V8 FE Holden and is building a 40's Chev Coup Ute with a 350 but no Morrie. It is wonderful how helpful some non Morrie owners can be. https://i40.tinypic.com/11hz7k7.jpg Cheers Graham :D :D |
G'day
Morrx went to the inaugaral Drysdale classic car show today and met up with the Geelong Morrie Club. https://i43.tinypic.com/ixshs8.jpg https://i42.tinypic.com/1zb46sh.jpg There was a good turn out of a large verity of cars, as they said in the add from MG's to Mussel Cars. But I liked this the second best there. https://i39.tinypic.com/15xwnkx.jpg https://i44.tinypic.com/vq2wsk.jpg Cheers Graham :):) |
G'day
Before https://i40.tinypic.com/4h60di.jpg and Now https://i41.tinypic.com/v7o9.jpg A bit different from original. I got in the back seat to take both picture, it was a lot easier with the original seats. Cheers Graham :):) |
G'day
. http://i44.tinypic.com/rbczfa.jpg Morrx and I went for a little drive down to Lorne yesterday afternoon, about 200km round trip. We went via Geelong, Winchelsea, Deans marsh then over the Otway ranges to Lorne, came back via Anglesea, Torquay, Barwon Heads, Ocean Grove and Drysdale. The terrane varied from open undulating grazing/cropping land, Geelong to Deans Marsh, to mountainous temperate rain forest , Deans Marsh to Lorne, then panoramic ocean views from the Great Ocean Road, Lorne to Torquay. http://i41.tinypic.com/vgqxoy.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/jqtb8y.jpg From Deans Marsh the road rises to 427m in 12km then drops to sea level in 11km, the road is two lane with a 80km speed limit but most corners are signed at 30 to 40 kph with generally only a couple of hundred metres between the corners, with the gear box held in second Morrx had good engine breaking going into the corners and good acceleration coming out for the straights great fun. With second giving 20kph/1000 the engine was operating in the 2000 to 5000 rev range which gives easy power as peak torque is at 4000 and power at 7000. With ventilated disks up front not brake fade which added to the fun. The Great Ocean road is cut into the side of the Otway Ranges which come down to the sea, it has panoramic ocean views on one side and a cliff on the other, winds around the edge rising and falling as it goes past creeks and beaches. A pleasant sunny day yesterday ( high 20s C) but being mid week not too much traffic so a very pleasant drive a nice bit of variety, and Morrx performed beautifully, a very good day. Cheers Graham :):) |
G'day
I saw another rotary powered Morris today, in Hobart, It had been on the road for about ten years before being taken off to have a 4" chop, for a chop top it is very neat. https://i42.tinypic.com/108ffo4.jpg With out the fuel injection, air con etc there is a lot more room in the engine bay. With a manual box the engine sits a bit further back Which also gives more room. https://i44.tinypic.com/2zf0lf5.jpg https://i43.tinypic.com/156vf4i.jpg https://i40.tinypic.com/m7xl03.jpg Cheers Graham :):) |
G'day
I have always thought that the front brakes were a little bit more that was required, but after an incident at the week end I am very happy with them. In the middle lane on a 6 lane road, 70kph speed , a sweeping corner with a T intersection on the apex ( can you have a T on a corner?) and a clown in a Holden starting to cross the three lanes as I come aro:)und the corner. On the brakes so he can cross in front of me, then I become aware of the car on the inside has not seen the danger and not slowed. More brake pressure to hopefully avoid the debris from the impending crash, fortunately the car on the inside saw the danger and was able to cross into my lane just in front of me to just avoid the tail of the Holden. This just confirmed to me the requirement for good brakes and made me very happy I had not compromised the brakes but put new big bakes on the front, the back disks came with the Mazda axel. Power assist 295mm ventilated, grooved twin piston may seem a bit much for the front of a minor but when you need them you stop with a lot of confidence. I am happy I spent the money on them and I bet the car on the inside was too. Cheers Graham :):) |
she's a gem.
i don't see why its a unfinished project looks pretty complete to me silly judge's. |
G'day
I was just reading in "BMC Experience" (an Aussie Mag) about how Wolseley named their models primarily the 6 cylinder 24/80. The 24 is for the 2.4lt engine and the 80 the horse power. Using this method: The Minor 1000 (948cc) would be a 10/38, or should that be 9/38? MORRX would be a 13/160. Cheers Graham |
G'day
The other week we had a club visit to a members shed, he is a bit of a Ford nut but very interesting. He has a copy of one of the first Fords https://i48.tinypic.com/sb4ym1.jpg This one is said to be real, made about 1907 https://i45.tinypic.com/k1rwxl.jpg a few other early ones not sure if they are real but could be. https://i48.tinypic.com/vflguv.jpg And a few others from T to 56 Thunderbird https://i46.tinypic.com/vomjx0.jpg Cheers Graham :):) |
G'day
MORRX was busy over the week end with a trip organised on Ausrotary Forum on Saturday in the area north of Ballarat. https://i50.tinypic.com/9h6rsz.jpg https://i45.tinypic.com/fdy16d.jpg And a trip with the Melbourne Morrie club on Sunday to Dalesford. https://i49.tinypic.com/25k324x.jpg Some of the locals at lunch https://i47.tinypic.com/2s81e7a.jpg Cheers Graham :):) |
