I you feel a 13b has too much power why dont you just swap a miata engine into a rx .

I recently was told that someone was making a kit to swap 13b's into miatas (my dream car) a real porche stomper. If anyone knows who is making the kit or is sure whether or not it even exists please reply.

I can relate to the spoiling the spirit of the car idea. i have 2 GSL SE's. One stock with rb exhaust as a daily driver, the other is very aggressive with a supercharger on it. I enjoy driving both, I like the looks when I make the fast one rip and the sound at an idle, and I like the smooth, quiet daily driver too. I had a buddy who owned a 2005 Miata, drove great, handling was incredible, but i do agree it needs more power. I feel adding a supercharger or turbo the miata would make it just about perfect, nice power and incredible handling with great economy.

if the engine is actually lighter in the fd than it is in the miata, how do you figure it would "ruin" the car??? If making an RX7 put out 5, 6, or 700 horsepower to the wheels doesn't ruin that car (which came with 255), then how does a slightly built 13b-rew to about 350 hp ruin the miata????

I think 350hp in a "miata" would be fun for many, but not so much for the kerchief wearing old ladies driving them (accounting for 75%). The miata is a great car, but there is a stigma. Bottom line, most guys look like they spending the afternoon driving "the wife's car." You don't see many grannies driving FD's around.

holy zombie thread, Batman!

Anyone check out Mazda Sport mag a couple months back? There's a green TurboII motored 2nd gen Miata from Florida in it.

And I don't think that power, installed with care and foresight, ruins the car. The Miata in the mentioned magazine has the motor further back and lower than the stock engine, so it handles brilliantly. Lightweight and rotary is power is what Mazda specializes in, so that's like a super-Mazda

If turbo is not the right thing, and you want a bit more HP.Why not a Streetported 13B?

That will be great

Thats why its such a great sleeper. Besides, "older" (30+, my age range) love miatas and often smile at me in it.

The stock block in a miata (1.6 or 1.8) costs about $500 to replace and is good for 300rwhp with engine management. I would cosider a 13B swap, but its hard to justify financially, unless you already have the parts.

i was considering doing this swap too. however the $8000 to $10,000 swap budget caught me off guard.

for those who have done this, what would the swap cost assuming I already had the following:
94 miata
13b-tt engine, tranny, ecu, and wiring harness

i was estimating that i could do the swap for just under $7000 including the cost of the engine, ecu and harness. is this estimate too low?

also, my idea was to run SCCA SM2 and fight with the group of supercharged honda s2000s. I figured the 13b miata would be close to the same power but lighter. Problem is, the rules dont allow modifications to the firewall or suspension subframes. Could I do this swap without touching those?

thanks

Would that include stomping Turbo Rotary powered 911's?
