Mazda Chantez

I didn't know Mazda made this little tiny car back in the 70's and its a rear wheel drive. You know what that means rotary baby!!! Here's a blog from the our friendly neighbor Japanese nostalgic cars. Oh and check out the video.

I can't understand a word of that video, but it is still funny as hell. It would be cool to find one of those, and drop a rotary in it.

That car reminds me of the Honda 600 that came out about the same time. They were a hoot to drive, had a motorcycle engine and the 4 speed shifter came out of the center of the dash. The Kei cars were a special class of cars that were developed to deal with parking and road congestion. They were afforded special benefits that their larger counterparts didn't have via taxes, insurance and parking. In the States, they would be classified as super sub-compacts as they were smaller than even the early Civics. They only weighed 1200-1500 lbs..

Great find, btw, I can't believe how how fast that one gets off the line, especially compared to some of the 'performance' cars of that era.
