looking for R100, RX2, RX3

ok, I am not really a R100 RX2 RX3 type of person, i have always had second gens and my RX-8, (along with my drag second gen).
but i am thinking about getting something older then 75 (for California smog reasons) and something with a rotary. hence the r100, RX2 and RX3.

I am looking for something that is fairly easy to find parts for, something i can gut the hell out of, stick a nice engine in, and tear up the streets with on the weekends. i have the race car for going REALY fast in. i have the RX-8 for normal daily driving, so this would be more of a street legal, ultra light, nothing to it, bare bones, haul butt kind of car.

my questions for all you old schoolers:

Is there any advantages to any of the three i listed.

How would i go about finding one for a good price. i looked on the internet, but it did not seem to turn up any results for me.

are there any web sites out there devoted to an old school rotary. all the web sites i know of are for RX-7's

i just kinda want to see what i am getting myself into before i start. any info would be great!

Thanks!

parts aren't really easy to find for those old cars, just have to know where to look. keep and eye on here: http://thepartstrader.com/adlayout.c...0&Display=Full. sometime there's some on here too: http://www.collectorcartraderonline.com/adsearch.html. just do the search with the years 1970-1978 and mazda for the make. and of course there's always ebay.

The RX-3 is lighter than a RX-2 and yes, parts are getting a PITA. check out vintagerotaries.com. BTW, check out thepartstrader.com. there is RX-3 in San Diego.

If ur serious about getting a R-100 or RX-3, let me know.

ya like wackyracer said rx3's are lighter, I am partial to RX2's now, cause you can put fat 8.8 or 9 inch rear ends in them and I think larger motors in them as well, (but dont quote me on the motor thing) RX3s handle real nice, i know of one for sale its in pieces currently but the body in in great shape. and it would come with many extra parts but for a hefty price. I have a 70 RX2 coupe that i will be putting on ebay soon, but it doesnt have a title so by the time you finished it the titla shoud fall off the Washington DMV system. but ya R100 are pretty fat, i mean weight wise, but still really cool as well. As are all of the Old School rotaries. Lates matt22

Major differences are suspension related, rx3 has leaf springs rx2 has coil with multi link live axle, then personal preferences show up rx 2 has a very early italian style whereas the rx3 is a classic 70's coupe style (just smaller). Both take work to make them handle really well. The wieght diffenrence is there but is not a significant amount unless you are building an out and out racer. Parts can be obtained through Australian connections as these cars where raced extensively in the Group 2E (Club Cars) through CAMS (Aussie SCCA)

wow, thanks guys. you learn something new everyday.
i will look around see what i can find.
what is a decent price for something like an RX-2 or an RX-3
liek i said looking for something i can gut the inside out of, so it does not have to have GREAT interior, body should be streight. and engine does not really matter as i am wanting to put in a modified engine.
also do both of these cars accept 13B's well? are the trannys the same?
i saw an r100 on ebay, starting bid is 800, car has been sitting for 23 years now, front end is a little messed up. seems kinda high? is it? (personally i think i will go with an RX-2 or 3)
wackyracer your here in so cal right?

yeah, Im in Socal. The RX-2 is slighly smaller than the RX-3 but is heavier. All pre-81 RX's have identical trannies inclding the older 626.

Im a R100 type of guy hence my screen name, like it was said before parts are a bitch to get, but if you love them its worth it, if you want a cheap one, your basically gonna get a rollin chassis, but if you want a complet one, in fair condition expect to pay above 5g's...atleast tahts what I've found in my research, but I could be wrong.
