Unhappy Help to get my RX-4 on the road!

Hello Gang!

I would like to drive this car before the weather get crappy again here in Colorado.

The car has a 13B with auto transmission but a water seal is bad, no leaking but you can tell the compression is going into the radiator and reservoir.

This is the question,
Can I put a 85/12A I build for my other car on it?
Can i just put the flexplate and front counterweight from the 76/13B on my 12A and be good? and will the 12A engine bolt to the 76 Auto tranny?

I just want to drive for the summer and get the original engine beef up!

thanks in advance,

Andres

I believe yes to all of the above w/ minor mods.

Im not sure how much difference there is between the 13-B and 12-A rear counterweight. Vibration wise, Im not sure but since its an auto, I bet its hardly noticeable.

Forget to add that you will need to put a shim when you mount the engine to the front engine mount. 12-A is shorter than a 13-B

Red face update

Well,
Engine is out, I will tear it down tomorrow......

I found a guy in the local Craigslist selling a 74 13B and 4 speed tranny he was asking $750.00 the lowest he take is $650.00. The engine is supposed to be a factory rebuild with only 5,000 miles.

Thinking on buying it and convert the car to stick shift, i think the car is going to be more fun shifting gear!!

Lots of thinking!!!

Wink

Hello All

Engine and tranny are in, it came out of a 74 RX-4. I just got to hook everything up. The housings have the Old looking Mazda Script.

I still got to wait for the clutch master cylinder to come it, i had to order it, so i be here next week, then I should be on the road.

Does any one knows how to remove the paint from the plastics on the dash? I want to paint it grayish, its gold looking right now. Sanding it wont work, I dont want to loose the texture, the ash tray is all peeled off.

Today Sunday is family time!! I got to keep the wife happy or she gets jealous!

What was the final verdict on the counterweight issues? I feel a correction for some misconceptions comin' on.

Hello Jeff
Actually I went a different route, I found a good deal on C-list on an engine and tranny 13B/manual from a 74 RX-4.

Am always hesitant to buy like that, but he had it on a stand, we ran it for 20 minutes, no smoke, easy start and only $500.00.

aluminum radiator

Hello All

Just want to share pictures of my ASI aluminum radiator.

This is the one you see in ebay, is made in China.

When I first saw it I was a little skeptical about the quality. I emailed a few people that won it in ebay and they told me nothing but good thing.

The Aussies are buying them like hotcakes, so I email the company and they gave me a good price on two of them. $250.00 each plus shipping, total was $635.00 or close to that! I have to check my bill!!

Am like Wacky with double trouble, am building two cars, don't ask me why!!!!

Am very please with the quality of this radiators, I got them 4 days after the paypal transaction cleared.

anyways here are some pictures, you have to drill the hole for the mounting bolts, and have to get a longer hose for the overflow tank,(40") the filler neck is further to the left.

Its a headache plus more. Something I dont recommend to anyone including my mortal enemy. Touch one and you have to do the same to the other. Mine is much more serious than that tho. I have 2 more FB's to maintain plus a FC (not including a DD for me and wifey).

The good thing:
There is no reason for you to go out as long as the ref is filled with heines.

I know the feeling, I could have bought several of them. I like the older school, more reliable factor.

Talking Update

Hello All

yesterday I decided to change the up pointing of my front end.

I cut 2 complete turns of the front coils, now the car set level and its handling better (Thanks Wacky)

Also I installed new KYBs on the rear I got from the local Advance Auto part.

I ordered the front ones today so they should be here sometime next week.
