Help! Enlighten a domestic owner

After reading and asking some people about the rotary engine I think I have a general idea of how the engine works.

But I keep hearing about the apex seal. What is that?

Also correct me if I'm wrong does the eccentric shaft work the same way as a crank shaft (meaning it's what makes the rotor move)?

Thanks

If you haven't already, search for "rotary engine" on the howstuffworks.com website. They have a pretty in depth explanation there that might help you even more.
