help with 1973 RX-2

ok im working on a friends rx-2 and its got a WEIRD prob. it only sparks(via timing light) when the key is turned from the start to run...so it only sparks when let off the key to disingage the starter. i would figure its a wiring prob. so we ran a new wire from the plug@ the key to the coils. still no good any ideas? i think we taped into the black with the yellow or white stripe. anybody got a idea..... i pissed with this thing for 5 hours and i got so pissed off i stoped working on it.

Cranking power to the coils should be yellow and black, ignition power to coils should be just black. YB should go to the + of the leading coil - chuck a test light and and try and crank. I am pretty sure it is not fused. The just black should go through the resistor.

Please note: I reserve all rights to be mistaken, misled or just plain wrong.

That sounds about right. My REPU had that prob after I upgraded to an '81-85 electronic dizzy. Heh, that's kinda funny to think about now (I mess with/fix ignition stuff all the time these days).

it should still hold - when checking the colours I used a proper rx2 wiring diag that I happened to have here at work (as you do...) but I used the same schema for my '76 mazda 1300 which now sorta has a rx4 13b bp and 1st gen elec ignition but with external resistors.
