well its 1am and iv just discovered my engine has a rear blowin coolent seal took the manifolds off and turned the engine by hand bunch of coolent came out the exhaust dohhh.. lol and i wondered why my plugs always got fouled though it smelt like gas but i must of been wrong.

so now ill pull it see if its rebuildable and go from there.fingers crossed .. what kinda porting do holley carbs like? i guess if my 6mm carbon seals are damaged ill have to change my rotating Assembly? ill definly change the front plate from a late 80's rx7 so i can have electric dizzy

will a 80's rear plate bolt to the rx2 tranny?

thanks

its time to buy some degreaser (409 or similar) to clean the engine bay, then paint.

i will pick my repu up and finish the small things like the brakes, clutch hydrulics, order some mufflers and have the driveshaft made when thats done and my daily driver ill start tearing into the body on the rx2 and start learning panel beating lol

im deciding on a s5t2 engine with n/a rotors for the rx2 maybe use the efi setup with a standalone

or am i going off the oldschool track and need a beating

4 speed transmission from an SA is a smarter choice. It will bolt right in and put the shifter in the right spot.

Yeah use your twin dizzy pan and pick up. The Rx2 pick up has a nice big strainer(compared to later) its kinked and long to go to back of motor/pan. I'd try my hardest to find it as you'll see a little clearance valley in the pan where the pick up snakes between the engine and pan. Trying to fab one will be a pita that you can avoid. Lmk if you have any more Q's as I've used this set up twice with success.

Sorry for the bad news but that pan is different to both O.G Rx2 pans I've used. It should have 1 shallow valley pressed just where the flat rolls down to the sump and that gives clearance for the pick up to come across and drop down into the sump.

Ps The Rx2 twin dizzy front engine mount is the solid one on the far left!

For a pic of the correct pan do a google image search and type in this: pineapple racing oil pan evolution. You'll see the pans from top to bottom lined up. The top one is an Rx2 pan and its labelled as a 12A DINOSAUR, Older RX-3, RX-2, etc. You'll notice the little valley for the pick up in the pic. As for the correct oil pick up, I found what you need on Rxforyour7.com in the Rx3/808 parts section for $55 but if you go to the misc engine parts page they have a milk crate full of pick-ups and I see two twin dizzy Rx2 ones in that pile! Maybe you can score one of the sweaty ones cheaper? they are easy to i.d due to the massive strainer and the goose neck tubing. Sorry for not posting links but I'm not the most computer savvy.

Surem that's not the right pan, maybe Rx3?

Blwfly,
Get turbodave to send you some pics of his pan and pick up and forward them to me and I'll verify that they're what you need. He's a solid bloke I've dealt with him before!

I still vividly remember my first ride in an RX2. A friend's dad brought it home. I had never heard of a Mazda before. I remember all the back firing it did. What a cool car. Glad to see you keeping it alive.
