FB w/ renesis -- heat related problems

was 103 today. We were driving the renesis FB up bogus basin road in idaho (so climbing elevation) but not too hard. The car just died. Wouldnt start back over. temp on gauge was good, but we had to let it cool down to start again. even the fuel tank was hot to the touch.

could it have vapor locked? is there a common symptom with this in normal Rx8s? the ecu and electronics are the same. Fuel system is obviously slightly different.

Are you using an in tank pump? Are you using the RX-8's returnless injection setup?

So your setup is returnless, and the tank was hot to the touch....

How's your heat shielding between the exhaust and the fuel tank? With a returnless setup, that's the only thing I can think of that could possibly be getting the fuel tank that hot.

Honestly I don't recall how well its sheilded on his car. But i think it could be improved. Also, I believe the heat from the ground was radiating the tank. It's refurbished so its just metal thats painted, no plastic chip guard insulation.
