Ok I assume you saw a RX2 without the RE badge, and thats why your asking this question right?

well anyways in the 70's mazda used the RX2 body for 2 different cars the RX2 and the 616. Both cars were pretty similar except that the RX2 was 12A rotary and the 616 had a 1.6 or a 1.8 4 inline. all Real RX2's ( i say real because people did do engine swaps with the 616's to have a RX2 "clone") were Rotary and RE was just the badge that went on the grill to basically say it was rotary.

to tell a 616 and a RX2 appart i believe the 616's had different tail lights compared to the RX2 which has the four round tail lights ( in 74 the tail lights changed on the RX2)

I hope this helps.

Thank you for clearing that up. I was just wondering what the RE stood for.
