Question coil or ignitor? help!!!

My 74RX has an 85 electronic ingnition, the problem is that the rpm gauge is bouncing from about 1.5K to about 2.4K at idle. When the engine is running, it's steady. I tryied an aftermarked gauge and it does the same, when is hooked up to the leading coils it 's steady, only does it with the trailing coil. what can be causing this?? Any ideas/sugestions?? TIA, Dave

I always thought the leading fired every other revolution. It looks like maybe the wires are swaped at the coils making the leading the trailing and the trailing the leading....? It was the first thing that came to my mind. Have the blast resistors been removed?

I double checked the wires and they are correct. Also the resistor has been removed.
