Can you machine a 45DCOE to a 52?

A friend of mine has access to his friends machine shop. I was wondering if I can lathe out my 45 DCOE weber to a 52 DCOE. Just wondering what/where I should look to get more info on this. I dont want to go too big or ruin a good carb.

Im not too sure but I imagine that if you have enough matierial to cut away and not have the walls too thin you would be allright.

If you manage to remove that much material, then you need to find venturies and butterflys to fit, if they are similiar to the Mikunis. I would start looking for a 51 mm instead.

i'm a machinist and it depends on how much this friend knows about the actual setup involved to get the job done so they're not off center. the throats of the carb can be made larger on a vertical milling machine, not a lathe. then u've got to get larger butterflys to match. and what if u get them just alittle larger than what u wanted? a nice paper weight? there's more to it than just making a bigger hole. u'd be better off just getting a bigger carb as stated previously.

Call George at European Motorworks Located in Southern California

Here is their Web Site:

They are a Weber Dealer and a good machine shop to perform this type of work. I would stick with the standard Weber throat sizes so you can get Auxillary Venturis/Chokes in these sizes in 40, 45, 48, 50 and 55.

You can modify almost about anything with the right tools and machinist, but with something like this you are probably just better off selling what you have. Then purchase a 50 or 55 DCO which would have everything already done.

Good Luck

The whole reason I was wondering about this is because I have a 45 DCOE on my 13B 6 port. From what I understand its going to be too small to make power when I fire it up.
