Red face Auto to Manual conversion

Hello All

I just converted my 76 RX-4 from Auto to Stick. It was an easy conversion because the tranny came from a 74 RX-4 so all fitted just right.
I had a set of pedals from a RX-4 I stripped a couple year ago, am glad I kept them and didnt ebay them like everything else!!!!

One issue i ran across is,when eliminating the auto shifter there are 2 wire connector that close the circuit so the starter engages when starting the car.(indicator be in Park before start).

So if any one have a solution for this or the wire diagram I will help me alot.

Tonight after work am installing the clucth master cylinder, I picked up an SE cylinder from Advance Auto parts, I also picked up a hard line to match the tread since the pitch is different for the pre 79 cylinder.

Use a starter from a manual tranny and you will be able to disregard those wires. At least thats how my vii lincoln tranny worked. Good luck.

Hello Latin 270

I dont think that's the problem, the starter is identical to the others I got laying around, I think is in the wiring, might be a relay or something.

thanks,

Andres.

Talking Update

Hello All

I got the clutch master cylinder in, is from a SE.

I had to make longer stud for mounting the cylinder, and bend the line, I bought a prefab line, 40" and i was a little short but i made it work.

Drove the car around the block, alots of power but a few issues, oil light and gen lights are continuos on, might be grounded somewhere.

I still have to figure out the wiring for the Auto shifter!!

and the suspension feels like a boat floating, loose steering...........

-Jeff20B I had a tunnel cover for the tranny, I was going to make one!!

I have the rubber and steel items you posted too. It turns out your RX-4 has the center console front bracket already mounted to the tranny tunnel. The Cosmo style is mounted to the flat cover plate. Looks like I'll have to fab something to make it work...

Hello All

Still getting the kinks out....

Since I couldnt find the wiring diagram or wanted to spend time tracing the wires, I just unscrew the selector box from the shifter wrapped with electrical tape, am leaving it under the center console.

Eddy, I read in one of the forums of a material to make the bushings for the suspension, its on my priority list!

In Ausrotary group buys is a vendor selling the complete kit for our cars, its so freaking expensive to ship!!!

Eddy, I read you are getting the Rewinds!

I was thinking about it but I want something different.
