Thanks guys for the kind words!

Moog Tie Rod Adjusting Sleeves arrived yesterday! Was excited to see if these are going to work. It appears that they do! I just have to source new short inner rods, since the inners have the reverse thread. I would appreciate any leads since most searches led to ebay, the Australian sellers were not willing to ship to the US, or they want to charge $150 just to ship... CRAZY :shocking:

I used the datsun 510 moog rod too. It works fine with those short inner tie rods, so you shouldn't be disappointed there. $150 for shipping? Or $150 shipped? Does Robert mills at ringwood auto spares still sell on ebay? I got a quote from him in 2011 for a set of 4 tie rods $160 shipped!

RX2-Mazda-Fan 04-26-13 12:29 PM

Thanks Ozzy, I checked ringwood auto spares on ebay with no luck.

"Car parts and More" out of Australia has them for $33.50 a pair... $32.90 for shipping. Just purchased the last pair!

Engine bay is starting to come together. A trip back to the platers is in order, I wasn't as organized as I thought. Missed a bunch of little pieces, not enough pictures and labeling. For now I'll continue, assess what needs plating and go back one last time, otherwise it'll take me years to reassemble. Radiator will need some slight mod to fit, as it sits a little high.

While primarily focusing on the front suspension, that has come to a halt. Waiting on the inner tie rods to arrive. Meanwhile started on other little bits. I attempted to restore the RE badge about 12 years ago, not to concerned with doing a long lasting paint job. Did a crappy job, didn't even strip the old paint off

This time around, sent the badge off to get re-chromed, and use correct long lasting paints.

Wow.... super clean beautiful build. Subscribing!

banzaitoyota 05-05-13 07:57 PM

who did your plating?

RX2-Mazda-Fan 05-06-13 12:28 PM

Thanks RCCAZ 1 for the kind words!

@ banzaitoyota, which plating? chrome or cad

RX2-Mazda-Fan 05-06-13 01:39 PM

Haven't been feeling like touching the car. So more pics...

Didn't think twice when I came across this, oh about 6-7 years ago from a buddy.

First time I saw a JDM Capella with the rear garnish, I dug it! It frames the rear end nicely, and visually more interesting than the USDM license plate holder. Nothing wrong with the USDM version, I like that as well, just a personal preference. I suppose when an item isn't readily available, it makes it more desirable. At least for me.

Scored this about two years ago from our fellow rotor-heads down under, seller was kind enough to send it to a very talented Mazda restoration expert. I really lucked out, the garnish was in great condition to start, with re badge and back mounting pins present. The restoration is top notch, I am very pleased!!

In order to mount garnish properly, the rear would have needed to be drilled to accept the pins from the garnish. It appears that it would use similar hardware as the rear quarter badges. Still undecided on this, to drill or not on the body.

Damn garnish looks nice.expensive and hard to find now a days.profress is looking real good RX2-Mazda-fan

RX2fan 05-07-13 12:48 AM

Can't wait to see that garnish on the car!

RX2-Mazda-Fan 05-07-13 10:09 AM

Thanks guys!

Can't believe the asking price for unrestored garnishes these days, crazy expensive! Not impossible to find, I really was fortunate that I made contact with fellow enthusiast, that are willing to assist in anyway possible and not try to over charge for parts. I do think that prices will only escalate, as more serious collectors begin to add J-tin to their collections.

Eeyore 05-09-13 06:23 AM

Such a high standard build here. It will be a very nice car when finished that's for sure.

marquez1681 05-09-13 11:55 AM

its looking nice..love the color

RX2-Mazda-Fan 05-10-13 04:50 PM

Thanks guys! Pretty happy with the color, even though it's a little off from the color I was going for. More rear stuff...

The USDM license plate holder that came on my first RX2 had the two plastic light fixtures attached to it. The fixtures were so sun weathered and brittle, they fell apart when I tried to clean them up to paint. I replaced them with early 80's Corolla fixtures, which were factory chromed, I thought looked good.

Now I decided to go with the rear garnish (no lights), the bumper also needed to be addressed. So opted to go with the JDM center bumper section with single light fixture that attaches to it. This was a major score, since it is a new section, just needs to be cleaned and polished to make sure chrome is still good, seller also had a good light fixture with new clear lens that he included in the deal. Sent the light cover off for a quick polish.

Cars is mint, nice work

RX2-Mazda-Fan 05-21-13 11:08 AM

Progress is slow, really haven't touched the car at all. The inner tie rods arrived almost two weeks ago. They look great and I'll have to modify the center steering link in order for them to fit. Just need to increase diameter to accept the slightly larger rod bolts.

Been months since I've worked on the 2, been super busy and gathering more parts. After attending SevenStock... well that always motivates me to make time for the duece.

Picked up a stock rear end to at least get the car off the stands, and be a roller. The idea was to have a stock rear end for now, til I decide on other options. But I have been lagging so much that I'll just go with this stocker for now and progress on the build. Rear end had a minor leak, took it apart to clean it and reseal it.

Looks like I'll be replacing the bearings, was going to do it anyway since I will be using it.

Had the Super Pro bushings pressed in almost a year ago, finally coming together!

Pre fitting all the trailing links, making sure all fits correctly.

Had the bolts plated, forgot about all the rest of the hardware, it'll go to the platers.

That Rx-2 is SEX on wheels!

banzaitoyota 11-28-13 10:31 AM

moving along faster than mine

RX2-Mazda-Fan 11-28-13 04:33 PM

Thanks fellas... more pics of progress.

Picked these up from ebay, the previous owner had the door jams painted lime green, including the hardware, must have been a 90's thing?

https://www.rx7club.com/members/rx2-...85-n-56039.jpg

Installed with re-plated hardware. Just need to respray the two guides to flat black.

https://www.rx7club.com/members/rx2-...99-n-56042.jpg

The dome light sensors had the same treatment, disassemble, cleaned and replated as they were sprayed lime green. The door mechanism same thing, the only thing missing is the plastic washer that had to be destroyed in order to replate it. Have not been able to find replacements on that, if anyone knows were I could source them out, I would appreciate the info.

More nos stuff that I picked up many years ago, I know I have four of them, just need to to dig thru my stuff.

Finally got the rear end installed, forgot about the rear sway bar that came with this car. Cleaned it, replaced all the hardware, and sourced the bushings from AutoZone... over the counter purchase! Talk about Instant gratification!

Awesome build. Love your attention to detail. Cant wait to see tbe finished product. I am also restoring an R2. Using the same coilover set upand super pro. Good Luck with the build looking great

RX2-Mazda-Fan 04-05-14 08:01 PM

Thanks for the kind words egrx2! I wish I could go faster as I tend to get hung up with small stuff, LOL.

Center link has been bored to accept the larger diameter inner tie rod bolts, just needed to find a guy to do it. Also installed the steering column, with new everything, even the column bushing below the steering wheel, that eliminates the slack from the column. Super tight, can't wait to drive it!!

Crappy panoramic phone pic of the deuce on the ground, height still needs to be adjusted, once motor is in. Been wanting to get it off the stands, with living in earthquake country in all, probably would be safe on stands, but I always had that little voice in the back of my mind.... not even a week after it sat on all four wheels we get hit with a earthquake... then another.
