I hope the back of it looks better than the front. The only similarity is the door handle.

Even if Mazda uses a short-wheelbase version of the RX-8 platform, that doesn't mean the styling is going to be the same. This thing is obviously nothing more than a computer generated sketch.

imakenews.com is a marketing company that happens to share web hosting with autospies.com. If you look at the picture it says autofiend.com on it, and the exact same article is on autofiend.com.

sorry to bring your hopes down. Companies and sites like that make their money from creating vehicles like that. That vehicle was probably designed by somebody who designs vehicles and made money selling the prototype of the rx7. I have news from very good sources directly from MAZDA USA. Mazda had tried very hard to convince Ford to be able to finance and bring the RX8 to the U.S.
The vehicle was originally intended to be a coupe vehicle for a Japanesse Distribution Market. Since Ford was financing the vehiclle, they wanted to be able to import the new rx8 to the US but they were scared that the sales wouldnt be as profitable as the rx7. They ended up convincing Ford executives that if this was a 4 door vehicle it would have more appealing to the US market. The style of doors that the rx8 has was a result of mazda designers to convince Ford executives that it would have an appeal to US and JDM markets as wells as young adults and adults.
As far as the RX7, they will not produce or start designing anything until they see succesful results with the RX8.
In other words, if Ford executives arent convinced with the RX8 sales then we can say bye bye to new generations of RX7s or even rotary engines.
In the other hand, MAZDA is not distributing as many RX8s to begin with, Major Markets like FL, NY, DC, CA, TX are getting as much as 8 vehicles to begin with and smaller markets(dealers) can only get 2 vehicles. Also Major markets can sell them as soon as they are released, however smaller markets arent allowed to sell the floor samples til October or even November. They can only pre-order them from MAZDA but arent allowed to sell those 2 floor samples.
In summary we better hope the RX8 sells or we can say bye bye to a new RX7.
If the RX7 comes back, it might only be a coupe model with few redesigned lines of the RX8. Just like what MAZDA did with they redesigned the Miata. It looked very similar to rx7.
Cheers
Saul

my dad works for mazda and he got to speek with some of the reps and they have pretty much said the same thing. All the Ford bean counters and buisness suits can burn in Hell, this sucks that the Rx7s fate teeters on appeasing them. Guess we can only hope the Rx8 doesn't have any defects and they sell the **** out of that car, the store where i work has already seen a lot of demand for the car. I am hoping for the best.

I guess my thoughts are not related solely to the U.S. market and just whether or not Mazda is going to produce the car at all. The image is obviously nothing more than a computer generated sketch.
It does make sense though, that Mazda would try and take advantage of economies of scale and use versions of the RX-8 platform to underpin other models. There's a rumor floating around that the next Miata is going to be mechanically similar to the RX-8 and there have also been rumors of a hardtop version of the Miata for a long time.
On top of that, it has been confirmed that the 2004 Honda S2000 is getting a displacement increase to 2.2 liters and there are rumblings coming out of Honda that a hardtop version is in the works. A Renesis-powered RX-7 based on the RX-8 chassis would certainly be a worthy competitor to that hypothetical car, and a drop top version would be a fine competitor to the S2000. Maybe make the Miata 2400 to 2600 lbs and available with the 210 hp Renesis out of the automatic RX-8 and get the RX-7 in around 2800 lbs with a Renesis making 280 hp or so? Put the Miata starting at about $24k and the RX-7 at like $31k or so. That would be a good sports car lineup.
Obviously this is nothing more than speculation on my part (aside from the 2.2 liter S2000 thing) but it wouldn't be that hard to believe if it happened.

Good statements above. We can only hope that there will be more competition. (350z, STi, Evo8, etc.) just to name a few out on the market. Hopefully the horsepower wars and the come back of sporty cars will push Ford to give Mazda the green light to a new RX7. We can't let rotaries die!
