495k miles??? geh!!!

alright, i was just sitting here thinking about the rx2 sedan that i picked up. . . and no i dont have any pictures yet. . . my computer action sucks!!!

anyways, this car has 495k miles on it. . . no joke!!! as far as ive heard, the early 12a's were a very bad representation of the rotary engine. . . like 40k mile motors. am i right? if so. . . that means my car has seen a different motor on an assumption of about 12 times. . . thats crazy!!! somehow, i just doubt that. . . haha. . . any thoughts?

also, what kind of apex seals do these early rotaries have on them? this is a 12a twin-dizzy.

thanks,
paul

Car and Driver's 40k mile RX-2 teardown. Not a lick of trouble, except for carbon buildup on the rotors (duh)

I belive they use 6mm carbon apex seals, and double oil control rings.

holy crap. . . 6mm apex seals??? are you serious?? hahahaha, thats crazy. where on earth do you find apex seals for that??? the double side seals is a cool idea, but the single oil control o-ring is a bit doodooish.

i was wondering the same. . . maybe he swapped out the speedometer or something. . . or what else could he have done? whats funny is that theres no odometer reading on the title!!! hehe, the world will never know.

paul

edit: just tried to check carfax. . . the vin isnt long enough. . . whats the deal with that? did they print the vin wrong on the title? or are they just not the 17 characters that they are on todays cars?

The 17-character thing was standardized in 1980, I think. Some imports still didn't convert until the 80s, but you'll notice that most Mazda VINs are JM1.... (FC, FD) which is reserved for Japan, Mazda, Hiroshima (first three characters. Hence S1 RX-7 were S22. When I registered my deuce, the DMV guy asked to come out and see the car's VIN plate and anywhere else it might be. Insurance took 5 calls and 2 photos before they'd let me use my VIN.
