The car is getting real close. The JDM motor came in friday afternoon, got it cleaned up and dropped in yesterday. One major obstacle for me was that I wanted to put the Turbo II tranny in instead of my rx3sp 5 speed. the clutch always slipped, and second gear kinda goes, CHING, when I bang it hard. the turbo tranny has a bigger flywheel and clutch, plus it is newer and smoother. I had to move the shifter 5 inches forward, make a tranny mount and it took me 8 hours of fabritcation. Now I ran into another problem, the driveline splines are bigger on the turbo tranny, so I have to build a driveline too. Interior if done though, and the exterior. Brakes are bled and the power streering box is in ( another big project for me) . Now I just need to remember how to hook this motor up, wiring, hoses, stuff like that. I should be driving it this week!! Feels good to have the fabrication of the tranny and power steering out of the way, all nuts and bolts now.
I have been working on the car everyday for almost 3 weeks now, in between loading parts into the CNC machines, shipping boxes, and running my business. super multitasking!

everytime I install the crank angel sensor with the marks lines up, the car fires and idles, but the timing marks are almost underneath the pully when I hit them with a timing light. changed CAS, changed pullies, but if the marks get even close to the timing mark on the pully, it doesn't run. I'm stumped.

When using an aftermarket EMS, you have to go into the ignition settings and manually zero the timing. I'm not familiar with Haltechs, but every EMS should have a way to do that. Line up the timing marks on the engine, line up the CAS notch and dot and install, verify the spark plug wires are installed properly (all of which I'm sure you've done) and check timing with the idle speed set at or below 1000 RPM, ignition timing set to zero. Once that's done, post the timing map on the 2nd generation forum. I used a basic map that I found floating around, but there are some gents that can really give great input on it if you post the map and what your goals are.
What a nice car! I've always wanted to have the time and money to do such a thing. Please tell me you have plans for all those wires floating around the engine bay!!

wow that is NICE! Rota makes a couple of wheels in the 4x110 pattern, the RB looks the best, imo.

That is one nice RX4, man. Cool you are local too. I changed my bolt pattern to 4x114 on the my RX4 to get more wheel choices. I used GSL-SE fronts and I got a complete rear end from a 79-81 Celica Supra.

i got the timing figured out, installing the CAS with haltek is different then stock, took me a long time to figure it out. it runs great now, pretty fast but when the boost hits the tires light up in first, then the clutch slips in all the other gears. got a clutch on the way, wanna feel the pull!! its pretty damn fast though, but then again, ive been driving a toyota pickup for years and anything feels fast compared to that, lol. The car is super solid, real quiet and smooth. suspension is a little bouncy, but other than that is drives great. I still have to hook up the power steering pump and and get an alignment done. gettin closer everyday, been driving it daily like it is anyway.

WOW that car is so beautiful, its nice to see someone working on a Rx4, and this one looks like a showroom piece, but that motor gives it just what it needs, well done
