Small update. Cut 85% of the metal out that needs to be removed. I still need to drill out the spot welds for the remaining part of the front frame rails and remove them. And do some clean up work of course.

The DOM tubing is ordered and on it's way. Can't wait for a rust free front end.

Thought about it. But soda blasting does not remove rust at all. Which covers more of the car than anything... So it will not benefit me that well. After I fix as much rust as possible. I will have it media blasted. A local place uses plastic media (also does not remove rust) to get the car to bare metal.

Still waiting on my DOM tubing, taking forever. I want to get this tube front done already!

wait how does it not remove rust? pretty damn sure when you see bare metal it means there is nothing on top of it. Now in areas where you don't spray sure, rust will stay there.

Soda blasting does not remove rust as soda is very soft and does not have the abrasive qualities needed to do so. Plastic media has the same problem. I called the Media blasting shop in my area to confirm this and they did.

But at the same time this is why they are a great choice. Soda and plastic media (and similar) do not harm the metal as sand and other more abrasive medias do.

yeah you are right, it will only remove surface rust and paint. And it will neutralize it too. Hey it beats sanding a whole car down lol

Track only. Even though it will be stock chassis and have the ability to be registered and driven on the street, I could never actually drive it on the street. Full PP motor, slicks, 1.5 gallon fuel cell, ect... I have all this stuff for the car, I just need to fix the rust before I can go putting it all on and have it running.

Ok... It's been close to a year since I have posted on this car. Mainly because I didn't touch the car for most of those months. I kinda gave up on it for a little. Considered it a lost hope. But then I thought, why not just make it a street rod. Not follow and specific rules or guide lines. This gave me some hope for the car. especially I have my 1st gen "drag car now, and my RHD fc to drive around. I can just build it slowly as time and ideas permit.

Ok, on with the show. I have done quite a bit of work since the last time i posted also. Only on the front end though. I have never done anything like this and have no real experience in tube frame or custom work that dives in this far. So here is what I came up with.

Getting the car as close to "level" as i can. Or better put, the stance I would like it to sit in when completed. I need to have the car in rolling condition to be able to move it around while working in my overly cramped garage. So i added some more square tubing/scrap metal and put it on casters...lol

In this pics you can see the rectangular tubing on the floor being set up for the frame rails.

Then finally got to use my mandrel bender that I have owned for over 4 years now and have never used! Wife bought it as a gift years ago and has been telling me it's the most expensive tool holder shes ever seen...lol

Here I am test fitting the tubing and seeing if I bent the DOM correctly. And also the "frame" is tacked in.

Here I am test fitting the second bent tubing. Cant believe I got them both correct on the first try... Good thing. Cause I only had this tubing and no spares.

Now I have cut down the tubing, added some bracing where the DOM meets the strut towers for added support. It's starting to look like something now...

Here is the tubing and bracing fully welded in. My MIG was acting up and my TIG was out of argon. So the welds arnt my best looking, but they are plenty strong which is what I am going for. The welds will eventually be smoothed out anyway.

And I am now working on the suspension and steering now. I am going to use a FC manual rack and pinion for steering and a franken system for the suspension.

Here's what I have configured as of right now for the suspension. This might change depending on how it goes wile I do the fab work... Its a TII strut/brake/hub assembly with GSLSE eibach springs and a Rx2 strut top. It's working fins but I have yet to finish the A arms, steering, or see how it sits when I get it back on the wheels. But I think it might work. Plus I can always get a pair of coil overs since its basically a TII assembly...

Thanks, I'm just pretty much making it up as I go along. Positioning the A arms has proved the hardest part for me so far. I have it mostly figured out now. Should have them done soon and the car back on its own wheels after way to long!
