wtf happened?

so im getting the feeling people are loosing touch on what a 7 meet is.... last time i went to a taco 7 meet it was all rotaries! what happened to that? its been a while since iv been to the meets up north. but down here in the south it seems like the meets are getting desperate for "anyone" to show up. we need a genuine rotary meet that doesnt suffice with any import owner. last time i checked i was in an rx7 club. anyways, thats just my opinion. feel free to elaborate

Probably the same reason, there are seldom any RX-7's at autox, drags, or the track, and all the running one are out drifting. Its a dying breed, sorry

or there are no running ones........ i see no desperateness, just about every meet we have had has welcomed all types and models for the past 8 years. we are not haters. we are auto enthusiasts. hell 50% of the time i can't even bring my rx out because of family reasons or its not running.

its not the fact of hating on other rides. i like all types of performance vehicles. im just saying, dont call it an rx7 meet if its not an rx7 meet. also, dont post the event on just the rx7club. post it on all the different tuner clubs if numbers are what ur after. my gf owns a z so ill jump on the 300zx club and see if we cant get some z's out there.

Yeah, sad as it is, these cars aren't getting any newer. And the 8 guys seem to mostly do their own thing.

At this point, I just want to give up. The only car I own takes all my money for gas every week. I can't even save up. I work to get gas to get to work. It's so pointless. So that's why I don't go to meets. I don't have an RX-7 or a show car. Only a rare car. *Sigh*

I'm not even sure how I'm going to pay for school in the fall. I'm pretty well fucked at this point.

People bring their friends or dailies... Not everyone's 7 is running or licensed or completely assembled. It's a 7club gathering for 7club members... Nothing states that you HAVE to bring your car or that you HAVE to show up. If others want to come that's not a problem, but cross-posting on other forums isn't what we're after. Otherwise we'd be talking about organizing import meets. Also, the community has gone thru quite a transition in the past couple of years and IMO has declined in quality. I won't go into detail, but let's just say a lot of the heavy hitters, FD owners, and cool people aren't around 7's anymore, or have left the area *cough*ADRIAN you're an a$$hole*cough*. Or, got lives and are just too busy to go to meets. I think a lot of it has to do with the people coordinating the meets as well. There are many I avoid because of the content or the person heading up the meet because I know who will and won't be there for those reasons. For those of you that know me, if we can have a conversation at or away from a meet then you're in my tolerances lol

Let's face it... I have owned my FD for 8 years and I'm 26 now (one of the "old" guys) and this club ain't what it used to be...

One thing I would really like to see is more unison between the rx8 and rx7 club. Maybe I am a bit partial because I am an 8 owner now, (I'm going to have a 7 again, you can count on that) But the 7's are getting older and older. Their following isn't exactly going to get any bigger. I mean hell, the FD is going to be pushing 20 years old soon. Crazy huh?

Anyway, the one thing that I think will really perk the scene up is a well organized and planned monthly meet for both clubs. When this club was at is peak, the Izzies meets were what really held it together. There looks like some great meets this summer, I hope everybody has a chance to make a few.

I completly agree. That would be awesome if the rx8 guys and rx7 guys would have a meet together. Maybe not everyone can make it on a monday. Taco 7 has been making changes. maybe izzys should have some diversity

Taco7 is dead, unless the new time has been working out well. The major problem I see with the Izzy's meets is the location combined with the time. I have a hard time making weekday meets as is, and that combined with the drive to Olympia is a tough one to do. The only time I could make those meets is when I was a college student.

As the majority of the population of this club doesn't live in Olympia, it just doesn't seem like a good place for a meet. We need something more centralized.

If someone picks a great spot, gives plenty of notice and gets the right people involved, people will come. And you know what might really get people excited? Going for an actual drive after. There is plenty of potential here.

I own my car for myself, not to show to people with the same car. I'm not interested in an import meet, if I want to see 240's I will go to evergreen on the open lap days, if I want to see honds I will go to Kent on a Friday night, if I want to see euros I will go to bellevue sq mall, if I wanna see sti's/evos I will pass by a high school, if I wanna check out audi's I will meet my friends cause they all own them. The seven owners I most see eye to eye with have moved on to a different car or moved out of the area. Build your car for your self

Taco7 is dead because the coordination fell off when Grae and I got busy with life.

We've tried in the past to coordinate meets with 8 club and they've never made a showing, aside from the couple that frequent 7club forums.

And MazdasNW meets don't really respect the 7 crowd and are more into the hella flush crowd. There's just a huge disconnect among the whole Mazda community up here

I have been a member longer than anyone thats posted so far and this is my take. I agree that generally the meets are for the members, no matter what they drive, but as long as they contribute here and have rx7/rotary knowledge/interest they should be welcome.

I think one of the main contributing factors to poor turnouts at meets is the fact that they are held way too often, I think weekly/monthly meets are a bad idea. They are at the same place with the same people, how boring is that!
Meets should be something special and something that people make a point of going to, rather than something on a weekly basis, then when something comes up, its low on peoples priority list. That's why meets like the carnation get together, the old ABF get together etc are/were such a hit. I think we should cancel the weekly/monthly meets and try and have get togethers hosted by different individuals at different parks or race events that would incorporate either a drive or bbq. Those are good times! and I think you would see more people showing up with their cars.

as a old man and long time rotary power owner, I never used to go to meets at all after a few with a lot of chest pounding and adverse behaivor. It would be nice to have a few meets with more tech talk, sharing of ideas, and showing what we have done with what we built for our selfs. Not a bs parking lot secion. Lets share our ideas and keep the rotary alive....... not it to be a dieing breed of car that we all really enjoy working on and driving.

lets have a all rotary meet some where in the central area of Seattle to Olympia. Any ideas of a good meeting place? Federal Way? Fife? or beyond? Everyone has spoken their thoughts......time to buck up and post ideas. I agree, monthly meeting are hard to come to sometimes, but lets all quit complaining and organize some thing that will work for everyone and have a bbq and meet for ALL rotary owners period.

OK I have vented enough, lets all organize a all rotary meet somewhere...........

I think there is quite a bit of truth to this. Back in those days, we had the izzys meets and the special events and that's it. There was less so it made it a bigger deal to get to. This would be a good topic to discuss at Lloyds BBQ, as I am guessing that everyone who really wants to be involved will be there.
