wondering about rx7s

Hey everybody, I'm gonna be looking to get a cheap sports car in the next year and I've been leanin towards the rx7. Its just gonna be a car for cruisin and scruin around that I don't want to put a lot of effort into. I was hopin someone could let me know decent first or second generation rx7 goes for, what kind of problems or quirks you may seem to have on a regular basis, and also how much replacing the engine and tranny goes for, and are parts cheap in general. Any comments would be much appreciated.

They are cheap if you put ALOT of effort into them, the don't require alot of effort if you put alot of money into them. You could get lucky and buy one that turns out to be trouble free, but we are talking about 20 year old sports cars here; the odds are against you.

if youre just planning on screwing around and drifting it into a tele-pole then get a 240 or a corolla, save the rx's for people that care for them

You may want to read the first- and second-gen FAQ pages. There is a lot of information in there.

yah if u want a crusin n screwing around car get a 240, keep the KA24 even if it is under power and rock that. the ka's are reliable and u can find the engines for free. now on the other hand u can find fc's for free but with no motor n **** like that. the rx-7 is for the total car enthusiast not for the guy who likes to start the car on a saturday and **** around n then put it away for weeks at a time. the cars need work n to be well maintained, u gotta love it.

basically, a 7 is a fun toy-car, but there is a golden rule.. take care of it, and it'll take care of you. watch oil, love on your apex seals... and you'll be fine
