What's your experience with Atkins Rotary?

I'm thinking of getting a rebuilt engine from them. What is their reputation in the NW and has anyone dealt with them? I'm debating if i should go with corksport or atkins.

Go with atkins. I have done alot of buisness with them. Even parts they have gotten to me ushally next day and if they didnt get it out right away the have hooked me up! As far as motor wise. well i just rebuilt a motor for a kid that got his from Corksport and he had a little over 8,000 miles on it and went.... plus on that motor the port were was a little shoddy. It seemed like there template was not on the plate straight. but that is my opinion.

So 1 vote for Atkins!!!

You don't want to ask me... there are many others that follow my suit. If you want to do a real search on Atkins do a search in the good/bad guy section here and if you want even more information go to nopistons.com.

I agree with Z-beater 100%. Do a search on Atkins....though you might not find much cause most of the bad has been deleted about them. You might find some at Nopistons.com where your word is always safe to speak.
I would go with Pineapple, Corksport, or Lopie

Ouch Atkins, I was really looking into them. I guess corksport is the way to go.

Sike! pineapple seems to have a good reputation here. Darn, i wish they were in WA but at least there in the NW.

Anybody ever bought a motor from them?

Ive had good experiences with Atkins as far as Mikey (an employee) at Atkins building my motor. He built it about a year and a half ago, and it is still running strong. (though I rarely drive my car). I have had good experiences with the Atkins family most of the time except for last year when all the uproar happened where some of their motors and customer service was concerned. Before the uproar, they went out of their way a couple times where my car was concerned. Who knows coulda been a bad streak at the time that they were having, though could have been aproached a different way. I would not buy a motor from them because of what went on, but my opinion is more personal, with a lesson well learned. Never mix friendship with business.

I have never heard bad about Pineapple or Corksport. I have had a lot of work done at Corksport, and over all they did a great job and I am pleased with them.

Before this 1 problem arose with 1 motor here in the NW I used to bend over backwards to help everyone with there RX in the NW and went to all events, and help thoes out as well.
Even CB & CB2 and others can't dissagree with that... after this 1 problem came up and I have been beaten and rebeaten over it for a year and a half, I guss that would make anyone who owns\runs a business do what I did with that 1 problem..

There are even thoes in the NW that have made it known that I am the worst business in the NW and do not want to see me stay in business.. You know who you all are as I don't have to call any names.. Well for thoes that want to see me go out of business that WILL NOT happen as I have been here for 25 years and I WILL be here for another 25+ years to come...

At the end of the day that is all up to you on where\how you spend your money...

Later
Dan Atkins

I've bought parts from Atkins 2 1/2yrs ago! Good to deal with fast fast shipping.
Never had a motor built by Atkins nor Corksport so I can’t comment on them. Pineapple Racing is rebuilding my motor now! I would call Rob for a rebuild!

I hope that you have had a little time to do a search for yourself. I am not here to bash Atkins. I have made my points well known in other threads and it is pointless to mention them again. However I can personally say that none my my money will be contributed towards their company.

I have also done business with Corksport and Pineapple and Lopie. All IMO are top notch. Corksport had some awesome customer service and really made me feel like a valued employee even though I spent less than $200 with them I still believe that this is some of the best service I have recieved with such a small purchasing price.

The same goes for Pineapple. I primarily dealt with blake and the service was awesome. I purchased over 1000 dollars of stuff that I needed from him. A++ in my book. Not to mention they build some pretty neat cars.

Last but not least...Lopie. One of the coolest guys I have ever met. Really willing to sit down and explain what he is doing. He is the only one that actually did work on my motor. He swapped the front covers and adjusted my end play. By nature I am very precise. I don't like steps being overlooked. I sat behind him the entire time while he worked on my engine. I was extremely happy with his work ethics and quality.

IMO all three are top notch shops and you probably would be happy with any. It really depends what you want. I hope this helps.

i would take it to Lopi. at import auto in tumwater. he knows rotaries like you wouldn't believe. corksport is great also and so is pineapple. with pineapple you won't have to pay taxes!!!!!! good luck on your decision, no matter where you go i hope you get a well built engine. makes all the difference.

I can see where this thread is going...again

I have never done business with atkins, But I have talked with dan in person once and he did seem to know his stuff very very well, he was straight forward as can be with me and I learned a bunch off him in the hour I spoke with him which was reassuring as I wouldn't have a clue who to go to with my car when it has major problems. He has helped me out numerous times on this very fourm and with the exception of a few people here that had an alll out war with him and his business a year back I haven't heard anything bad about the busines he runs. I would say give them a chance, good rotary shops aren't on ever street block and we need to support the good ones and they will help us back.

Man, I really didn't want to get involved in this again, but now I feel that I have to.

I think it needs to be said that Dan Atkins is a great guy. I've only had a few conversations with him, but I thoroughly enjoyed each one. As far as his involvement with Atkins rotary goes, it's not "his business", and I don't believe he runs it. It's his parents company, and of course, he works with them.

I think with any issues that have come up with Atkins, Dan can't be held acountable. Everyone needs to understand though, that Dave and Kathy are his family. Now, I'm not expressing an oppinion on thier business ethics one way, or the other. BUT, whether they were right or wrong, Dan is gonna stand up for his family, and understandably so. I don't think he can be faulted for that, or blamed for any "wrong doings" by atkins rotary.

That being said, I've now got my helmet on, so have at it.
