What Should I do??
It's officially the first of the year and time to start pulling the motor out of my 90 TII. My plan was to rebuild the existing motor and build it along the way for as much performance as I can possibly get out of it.
Now, two other options have presented themselves and I'm not sure what I want to do now.
Option A) I can get a brand new rebuilt motor for around $1200 and no core required so I can keep my existing motor and rebuild it. I have always wanted to tear a motor apart and rebuild it.
Option B) I can get a crate motor, not sure for how much yet.
Option C) Pull the existing motor and rebuild.
I am also going to need an exhaust system and the turbo needs to be checked out.
If money were no object, what would you do? If you have a limited budget and wanted to get the most for your money?
When I am finished with this car I want it to be in show condition. I want it to be the purtiest one around for miles.

For 1200, you're probably not getting much of a rebuild. An all-new motor will run several thousand bucks at least I'd say.
If it were my car, I'd pull it and rebuild it, replacing damaged parts as needed. You will end up spending around 2 grand probably, but you'll learn a lot and have fun. This assumes that you have an extra car to drive and a garage with tools, etc.
Are you going to clean up the motor, etc? Some people like to paint the irons in a color and polish the rotor housings, etc.
What about mods? You going with a larger turbo? This could turn into a huge project.

if money were no object, I'd get lopie at import auto in Olympia to build me a monster motor...
biggest bang for the buck, I'd probably look to Mark at Mt Peak in Enumclaw.
wargasm is right, a complete motor for $1200 is pretty scary, unless you really know the history of the motor, and the people involved.
Good Luck, it's a nice car!
