Finished pulling my motor yesterday. Anyone else do it without an engine hoist?

At WSU I pulled and replaced my ...... hmm... 5th or 6th engine in a parking lot with 2 people on each side, a rope, and a fence post. Wasn't fun but it can be done a few inches at a time. Took a good 3 hours.

incubuseva 05-01-11 11:18 PM

Nice. I had a little help from my jack, but I had to lift it off my motor mounts on my own, hold it there on the steering rack while I took the motor mounts all the way off + then lowered it with one hand and held it steady with the other. I think I'll use a lift when I put it back in.

ArmyOfOne 05-01-11 11:43 PM

2 strong people and a 4x4x10 wrap the strap around the post once and that way you can get some tilt on it. to alleviate the pain make sure the e-brake is on and the trans is in gear. That way you can turn the front pulley nut to mate the clutch splines. Once it is close just wiggle and get the exhaust side lower bolt on hand tight. remove the clutch slave cylinder from the mounting point to alleviate the squeeze point.

And the most important thing of all, patience. Lol.

silverfdturbo6port 05-04-11 10:25 PM

Jhereg 05-04-11 11:10 PM

That's just plain sexy.

I got sick of looking at the fake carbon fiber vinyl I put on center pieces so I pulled them out, and my radio surround and after cleaning them real good, hit with first coat of flat black.

Noxi 05-04-11 11:41 PM

So it wasn't factory assembled? Maybe one that a shop put together? Let us know how it looks inside if you tear it down.
