Hey since there is a thread about the race at PIR I thought that I would post one on MX race at Washougal.

So...is anyone going to the MX race at washougal this weekend? Should be a good ol' time.

I wish I could but I've got other plans this weekend. Is there going to be an all thumper class this year?

Sadly there was only 3 2 strokes for all the different motos...Decent racing Ricky cleaned up in the 250 class though and no bubba....man I wanted to see the bubbascrub over the A-frame.

NOOOOOO!!! 2- strokes seem like they are dying!

Well, I will never go back to the 2 stroke. Years of kicking a 550 over tired me out. The newer 4 strokes are light, powerful (smooth power),rev fast and have low end torque. However, the biggest selling feature for an old rider like me was the E-start button.

550 2-stroke that is huge. I bet it hauled though. I have heard storied or 400 and up 2 strokes that would almost rip the bars out of your hans. A 550 2 would equate roughly to about a 1100 4 these days.

So you still ride? If so you are a lucky man. IMO you have one of the best tracks in Washington. And it is free to ride. There is no better competition there.

I agree the 4's are getting to be a better bike and it seems as if the 2's are being phased out. Someday we will all probably be riding thumpers. I remeber back in the 96 supercross when a local pro got into the main event with a thumper. The crowds were going wild, especially me since I rode a 4 back then. Nowadays I root for the 2's since they are the underdog. I guess I like to see something different.

I occasionally head over that way to ride. The majority of my extended family lives over there and ride the Horn Rapids ORV. Maybe we can get together and ride...

That would be fun. The 525 I now ride is set up more for x-country but I could handle a few laps around a track.
A 550 is comparable to a kx500 but w/ more low end.

KTM guy huh. The guy that broke my bike rode one and I was able to take a few laps on his before he cracked my case. I was on a pretty hilly course and rolled on the throttle fairly hard and the front end started coming up...mind you I was riding up a hill. Powerful bike and pretty much completley stock. The front end seemed a little mushy though.

I have been thinking about a 4 how do you like it. I was leaning more towards the 2000-2002 426 or 2003+ 450's. I have never really had the oppurtunity to ride one on the track.

I haven't ridden a 426 but I have taken my friends tricked out CRF450 for a spin. The CRF450 is a fun ride that tracks very well, but it lacks the low end torque or the E-start (lol) that I've come to depend on while riding in the mountains. If you like how your KX250 rides I bet you would like the CRF450 too . I have not been on a KTM 450 but I've heard that it is better suited for the mountains than the track

Yep that is the problem...I do a fair amount of jumping and really need to get a bike that has good suspension. That is the primary reason why the 525 turned me off. It was a great bike and tracked extremely well but the front end was mushy...

You could always get the forks and shock reworked. although, If I was into jumping I would get a lighter bike than the 525. The new Husaberg 650 is about 10 pounds less than the 525 and has more power.

I don't think that I could handle the power of the 525 let alone a 650. As it is I can only get into 4th(on occasion) while on the track. And out at riverdale top of 3rd will launch me close to 80ft. 650 mybe on the open trails but I am pretty sure that I would shat myself on the track with that. I think that I am leaning towards the cr450 or a yz426/450.

I was kidding about the 650 on the track.lol The yz/crf 450 would definitely be best for mx. 80'! I try not to launch more than 8'. anyway, let me know when you're coming to town and we'll see if we can meet at the orv park.

Yeah, I will for sure look you up. I have been itching to ride that track again for quite some time. Hey I will even go out to the trails if you are up for it!
