Tps
Tps
So only a handful of you guys know me here as I've just recently stepped into the rotary scene and all. I tend to spend a lot of my off time at FD3S Engineering as it's so close. Marc is a pretty fantastic guy. Anyway, we recently diagnosed that I have an issue with my TPS in my 1990 GXL. I have found a place where I can buy a new one for a little over $400. I'm not really up for that at the moment. (I just got married![Oh no...]) Anyway, is there anyone out there that has one that they'd be willing to part with? Cheap would be good and free would be fantastic if you happened to have a junker car for parts. Anyway, thanks for reading my rant.
PS,
The symptoms of what I am experiencing involve the engine feeling like the fuel simply cut off when RPMs reach about 4k in second gear. Also, I'm just finding out that the revving of the engine when it's cold until it gets to normal operating temperature isn't supposed to happen...

What happens is when it's cold, the engine revs high as per normal (3k) and then it drops down to about 1.5 or so. After sitting for a minute it will then begin to rev from 750 to about 1.5k until the car reaches normal operating temperature. After that, it will sit and idle normally at 750. As for the bigger issue however, when I accelerate, the car will feel like it just had a fuel cut if I hit about 4k rpm in second gear.

Joel>> If the secondaries aren't coming on it just wont rev any higher in 2nd+gear [happened to my car 6mo after I first got it] This is totally different... Violent like the fuel cut
So we replaced the TPS and it did in indeed resolve the 4k issue that I was experiencing. However, it required a bit (a lot) of adjustment on the idle control. After replacing the TPS and tuning to make sure it sat at 1k ohm while closed and up to 5k on full open, the car would then idle roughly between 200 and 500 ish RPMs. Adjusting the idle, I was able to get it just about to 750 or so and stay that way unless I turned on the AC or headlights or something. At that point, there was some fiddling with the BAC. I didn't get it perfect but it's much much better to drive now. I suppose that if I ever get time on my hands, I'll go in and fine tune it. Until then, I'm just happy to have my power back.
