Exclamation Timing?

Anyway, i have no clue what is going on, and getting pretty frustrated, did a compression test and it is great. timing is all the way advanced and still it sucks. won't hold an idle...

So..................... If anyone has time.... say tommorow woudl be great, to come look at it that would be awsome.. as it is now my only form of transportation and i need to go get a job.

I've done everythign I can think of, yet no response on getting it to run smoothly...

It drives, but clutch has to be dumped at like 4k, and still it almost dies until it gets back up to near 6k. No power what so over. Both ignitors seem to be working, and the carb is not the problem... What is it?

Big *** vac leak maybe? I'm going to doubt that, though, since you say there is no power at all.

I'm going to also doubt it's timing, though. My timing was 180º off on my rx7 and it drove and idled just fine at 1.5k rpms, of course power was all messed up.

Hard to say what it is exactly, maybe check for vac leaks and restab the distributor or whatever you do for timing on those crazy carbs.

well.......

I checked for vacum leaks, found 2, and plugged up. All the Emissions are now off.

The timing is set properly to the FSM. It has new cap, rotor, plugs, wires

The carb is good, but when i start it up, it won't idle. I have to give it gas to stay running. When i go drive it i have to dump the clutch at 4k and it almost dies even then, but then will start to go, but very very slow, once up to speed i can shift to 2nd and 3rd, but it's like driving on one rotor. I did the compression test though and it checked out good

Stock carb or aftermarket? Maybe it's just dumping shitloads of fuel at idle and up into the midrange of rpms. Or on the other hand it's not dumping enough and causing a way too lean situation. The symptoms you described happened to me when I was way too rich at idle (playing with my fuel controller) and it would chug and die at idle unless I gave it gas. However once driving it was fine. When I took my emissions test last time I dialed in a bunch of negative points for my fuel to lean out my car and accidently took too much out causing it to be running way too lean. This in turn caused it to jerk and chug like crazy at low rpms and want to die. Pulling over to the side and richening it up a few points fixed that, though.

The only thing I havn'et done is checked the fuel filter... it may be a bit clogged, but it seems to get decent fuel. I'll check that in the morning.

Other than that the gas might be bad, as the car had sat about 1 year before it was drivin for 2 days, then sat anther 6 months, so bad gas might be the culpret as well. Unfortunatly, this tank doesn't have a drain plug.

Ah yah check or replace the fuel filter, who knows how long its been in there, and now that its pumping old gas through, well, it may have lost the last leg it was standing on.

If compression and ignition check out, its gotta be air/fuel mixture Check the filter and the pump too, if the filters clogged its starving for fuel, same if the pump isnt working. It I had spare time and money Id come help you look at it, but I too am looking for a job and short on cash

I've got a spare 7psi Puralator fuel pump, if the pump is bad i'll use this one. I'll go get a fuel filter tommrow and see if that clears up the problem. I'm hoping it is, as i've done too much work on this car to not know what is going on with it. I want to friggin drive it already..

Yeah, I could drive mine if I put a milk crate where the seat goes, and had a tow strap to hook it to my truck while someone pulls it, but I cant use the brakes because the thieves cut the brake lines so I guess I can only go uphill...

Well fixed the filter, and put new gas in it. Now it is detinating back into the carb... ya timing ignition problem I know, but we just can't figure it out.

Is anyone able to come take a look at it for me?

same thing with mine recently, i actually had to run L1 on L2 and vice versa... but now its all dialed in and pulls hard to and past redline, which means i have to be real careful lol, good thing for the redline buzzer

LOL

Figured it out today. Went and rented a real compression tester today, front rotor was good, but the rear rotor compressioned a "0". Pulled the motor and looked into the it for the seals... Absolutly no seals, and the insides are Fawked!
Isaac sold be a good 12a, and we are putting that back in. It's a bit hard to get the timing straight and **** worked out if you have no compression huh...

Anyway, there it is. See you all at the next meet

That's classy, check out the thread in the 2nd gen (probably 2nd or 3rd page by now) where there was a stationary gear failure, now THAT looks cool! There are no apex seal slots anymore, just smooth curve haha.
