Things to see when visiting Seattle...

Hey all,

I'll be visiting Seattle for the first time Mar 29 (Thu) - Apr 1 (SUN). My friend whom I'll stay with lives in the Mountlake Terrace area.

Could some Seattle natives give me some pointers for must see spots?

I'd also like to check out some bars/nightlife also. I'm 24 years old, into chill music like Thievery Corporation and the like. Any place with music that's busy and has cool people will work for me. I'm Asian but I'm down for any mixed crowd places.

Thanks!

Jeez one weekend later and you'd be here for the meet... What a shame.

I would say Alki is superb, but there isn't too much over there to keep you busy... A couple of bars... That's pretty much it other than the beach. And it's not suimmer yet. Always concerts on the weekends with many venues to choose from (Showbox, Neumo's, Premier, El Corazon, and the list goes on... I can't think right now!). Waldo's in Kirkland has good music on Thursday nights.

Adrian, you're an alcoholic , chime in on some good drinking establishments...

pioneer square always has good nightclubs and bars. Is it your first time in Seattle? Are you a sightseer or more of a partier?

This is my first time in Seattle. I suppose i'm a bit of both. I want to check out some good social spots, but I'd also like to see the unique Seattle spots like Space Needle and The first starbucks, monorail, etc.

Thanks for the help! Any more pointers for social spots or Seattle sightseeing would be apprciated! I'll actually be staying at the Green Tortise Hostel near Pike Place Market.

You must check out Pike Place Market. The first starbucks is in there, not really anything special but it's there. Check out the SAM outdoor sculpture park. Don't bother with Alki unless it is really nice out. Compared to anything is SoCal it's not a beach, but its the best we got around here.

There are Dicks all over the place. There's one on Queen Anne Ave a couple blocks north of Denny Way and another on Broadway just north of Olive Way. There are others. They're decent, but definitely not the best burgers in town - for that you want Red Mill just south of Greenlake, or XXX in Issaquah (which is sort of a 50s throwback diner, and car themed).

Hey thanks for the replies everyone! So far I've got:

-Venues: Showbox, Neumo's, Premier, El Corazon.

-Pike Place Market. The first starbucks is in there.

-Alki Beach

-SAM outdoor sculpture park. (http://www.seattleartmuseum.org/visit/OSP/default.asp)

-Freemont Troll

-Space Needle (http://www.spaceneedle.com)

-Monorail

-Dicks Drive In (http://www.ddir.com/)

-Red Mill just south of Greenlake (http://www.redmillburgers.com/)

-XXX in Issaquah (might be out of the way for me).

And keep 'em coming...I'll make it my personal goal to take a picture at each of the spots that are suggested to me!

If anyone wants to visit these places with me, let me know. I'll probably just be renting a bike while I'm there. I'd like to check out some RX7's if anyone happens to be around. I'll bring my FC with me if anyone wants to meet up. Don't worry, I don't bite.

1)Unless you want to see a live rock concert don't go to -Venues: Showbox, Neumo's, Premier, El Corazon.

b: Alki is the **** from March until October. I know cause I live here. I had a BBQ last night and then we went to the bars and they were packed. Sit they're packed right now. You should see the ***** out side Bamboo 15 minutes ago.

3: If you like ambiant check out See Sound Lounge on Fridays they usually spin trance house or ambiant stuff like TC. On saturdays they spin jungle or DNB. Thursdays Last Supper Club is the techno spot they usually spin trance/house in the main room and DNB downstairs, plus there is no cover. If you're into Hip Hop there are a **** load of places to go. J&M Cafe is huge on Fridays. Tabella is crazy packed of Saturdays. And Club Venom is okay either night. (Venon is just expensive drinks and expensive girls) There are a couple of pretty cool hip hop asain clubs if that's what your used to. Toi is the **** and Badda is pretty cool.

* If you like beer this is Micro brewery country. Sunday at 2pm you have to go on the Mack and Jack brewery tour. Also I heard the Pyrimid and redhook brewery tours are the ****.

#5 tim was right. I'm a drunk... tell me what music you want to hear what type of girls you want to see and I'll send you there.

Hyper4mance2k: Thanks for the pointers! So lets see here-

Trance house or ambiant stuff:
-Sound Lounge (http://www.seesoundlounge.com/)

-Last Supper Club (http://www.lastsupperclub.com/)

Hip Hop:
-J&M Cafe (Pioneer Square)

-Tabella (http://www.tabellalounge.com/)

-Club Venom (http://www.venomseattle.com/)

Hip Hop asian clubs :
-Toi (http://www.toiseattle.com/)

-Bada Lounge? Searching for info, seems like this place is recently out of business.

Last Supper and Sound Lounge look like the type of places I'm into. I'll probably check out Last Supper on Thursday night and Sound Lounge on Friday. Maybe I'll check out Toi or Venom on Friday. Venom looks like a good place to see the typical club ******. These places seem nearby each other so I'll just hop around.

I'll check out the Mack and Jack brewery but I gotta be back at the airport by 6pm on Sunday. I think that's enough time, but I don't want to cut it too close. I just have no sense of travel time for Seattle. Looks like Redhook's got frequent tours so I'll check it out on Friday or Saturday round lunch.

Everyone's responses have been helpful as I've got quite a list now! I'll have to do some planning to do as much as I can without missing something vital like Space Needle. Keep the ideas coming!

yea bada must be out of business... I haven't been in about a year. if you want to dance and be in the hot spot on saturday Tabella is the place to go. I can get you on the list and you only have to paya $5 cover instead of $15 but before 11pm. Also Venom is 1 bock away literally so it's not a far treck if you don't like Tabella. PM me and let me know.

edit: you might want to skip the mack and jack tour if your flight leaves at 6pm. The brewery is in Redmond and the tour lasts about 1.5-2 hours and i'd say it's a solid 45 minute drive from the brewery to the air port, and with Seattle you never know if there is going to be horrible traffic and it just might wind up takeing you to 2 hours.
