Speeding, self restraint, danger, cops, etc.
How does one restrain themselves from speeding? 100 is starting to feel slow to me, 60 is like a crawl. The backroads around here are just so sweet and secluded but if a cop catches me doing 120 down a straight, it's over, jail time, car impounded, reckless on the driving record, etc. Not to mention if a tire blows out or I crash or someone just pulls out in front of me, BAD.
Please discuss your method of keeping under control when the urge to wind up your rotaries hits you.

There's always the gas issue too....
More speed = more gas = more money = less money for other car work = less money for other stuffs

I just think about who I may kill, and the possibility of it being children. I wouldn't want to live with that for the rest of my life, just because I wanted a quick thrill. For the most part I save it for the track.

What good are two FD's gonna do him if he doesnt use gas to drive it? I always drive the speed limit because I go race every weekend, works for me. Once you push the car hard at the track, trying to push it hard on the street doesn't even come close to the same and its just boring to try and drive fast within the limits of being safe on the street especially since if you screw up your loses can be real big and real embarassing which makes it even more uncomfortable to drive fast. Also buying a slow good gas mileage car for the everyday drive works wonders on driving the speed limit too.

Yeah, buying a slow car that gets good gas mileage is the best way to go I think, I bought a 83 Tercel SR5 that gets ~40MPG average and just drive the 7 every once in a while to wake me up a little, it works wonders.

NOT TRYING TO FLAME ANYONE...
But the answer is, being more mature.
As you get older, you understand better the consequences of getting caught or worse yet, getting in an accident.
Loss of license... loss of job... loss of career... loss of house... loss of family, loss of life... loss of freedom... loss of anything you care about.
One you start to realize this, it gets easier to ignore the temptation to race on the steet. The temptation still exists, but you control it and it does not control you.

Great post. Racing other cars is a big no no for me, and I go the speed limit around neighborhoods, houses, anywhere where people live or work I am very careful. But these lonely backroads we have here near the coast are so incredible. There is nothing around but trees and curves, and once in a while a pickup truck.
I should grow up and take a drivers class so I can start doing track days. That would satisfy the urge.
*edit* and sell the SHO for something like a rabbit, heh.

Sell the show and get a 92 escort 5 speed!!
I bought one for 500 bucks to beat around with for like 4 months and learn to drive a manual on, it was awesome. Stripped that thing to the bone, custom ram air intake, and chopped off the muffler for less restriction, my goal was to get the best mpg I could and I ended up hitting 32mpg in the city! Driving that thing around in 5th gear at 30mph was awesome. Plus the speedo tops out at 80mph and the rev limiter is something like 3800rpm? Haha, perfect slow beat around car.
