WA some advice or explaination please

ok....so the other day i met up with my buddy at a car show in issaquah...my fd is the dd so of course i took it there..i didn't know i was showing up to a subaru legacy GT forum meet.....so they all start talking ****....anyways, i raced a few of them...but for some reason i couldn't get a really good pull on the highway... i was in 4th...then i tried dropping it to 3rd.....but it wouldn't pick up fast enough. i know there's nothing wrong with the beast. so why couldn't i beat a 2005 legacy GT with stage 2 (exhaust, cobb acess port, SMIC, springs).....maybe cause my car doesn't have a tune on it?

Because you have a stock cat stock IC and stock ECU Those Subarus are actually fairly quick, tack on a tune and some slight mods and I'm not surprised it beat you.

Yup. They are pretty quick. But, the RX isn't known for being a straight line speed demon.

Take them to the track and race them through the twisties. I am sure AWD will help them a bit, but they are also very heavy.

2005 Legacy GT is something near 300 HP. If it is the Legacy GT i am thinking about, they are running the STi motor, tuned down slightly below 300 HP. But, w/ proper tuning, and a better exhaust, they should be over 300 HP. The FD stock isn't near there.

Yeah thoseLegacy's have a generous 0-60 time and are definitely quick, nice car. Just cuz it isn't an Sti doesn't mean it should be slow. Get yourself a Power FC, boost controller, and midpipe and you should be on top. That stock cat really limits power.

well, i know its been awhile since you've seen my tim, but i got the powerFC hooked up along with a cold air from apexi...i just really need a tune. and before i can put on the midpipe, i need to port the wastegate....and i don't have the tools to port the wastegate or trust myself enough to do it alone, Zack was going to help me, but he seems to busy.....so i'm pretty much fucked on the midpipe/wastegate issue

As far as your loss a good tune helps a lot. Let people talk smack who gives a **** you drive an FD one of the sickest and rarest cars on the road. People always hate on the 7.

The fact that you showed up to hang and they started talking smack for no reason ( i assume you gave then no reason) just goes to show they have bigger issues than their car being fast/not fast. Like uh... being such douche bags that their mothers even call them douche bags. Tell them to pick on someone as awkwardly shaped as them... like some sort of ugly *** volvo wagon

You must have met the proper crowd then, most and I mean MOST Subaru pwners are just like Evo owners and Honda owners and DSM guys SRT guys etc etc... Their cliques are all about who can talk the most **** and not back it up. They dont know **** about other people's cars and hardly know anything about their own. But their car is unbeatable so they won't even bother to race. Frankly I don't typically race my car just cuz I'm not looking to be an idiot on public streets... Big deal my car is faster in a straight line from a roll over an Evo or SRT or whatever... All these cars are built for a purpose. Not to mention, if you were to add today's turbo/fuel technology as well as the higher boost levels run on today's cars the FD would destroy any of the current imports. Could you imagine an FD with a decent sized T3 and 18psi like an Evo ot Sti run?! We're talking a probably 350whp beast! So let them talk their **** and keep your **** on the track... I don't wanna see another FD bent in half on a tree.

And as far as the ported wastegate goes, from my personal experience, no creep no spikes in winter or summer and I run 14psi and a stock wastegate without any porting and I run a 3" midpipe... Porting is the safe option, but it's not always going to have the issues they say it will. Once you run a midpipe expect to see much earlier power. I spool at 1900rpm and have 14psi by 2300rpm all the way until I shift at 6900rpm. You may ask why? Well because peak power is made at 6900 so there is no point in revving to redline onm stock turboes. The car is faster when shifting at peak power.

The PowerFC doesn't really add any power until you tune it. It's a stock map that is arguably richer/leaner. There are differing opinions there. But it has no added performance benefit until you start tuning it.

From what I can see just browsing briefly, the Legacy is a mid 15 second 1/4 mile car with a near 100mph trap speed (seems high for that E/T, for example I ran a 15.9 at 88 in my old Acura). However, I've never known Subarus to be built for 1/4 mile runs. It scored highly on Road & Tracks performance testing lacking only in fuel economy. It's definitely a well built car with plenty of potential. It makes 250/250 on 13.5psi. It's not your average family sedan. A worthy victor if you ask me based on his mods compared to yours. (IIRC 99 turbos, Efini Y-Pipe, DP, CB, mild street port, and PowerFC) Really you need some more boost

i know i need to get it tuned bad, i just don't know who is coming up here yet? BDC or steve Kan....i don't really care either way, i just want to run better. from what blueshift was teling me, when he installed the mid-pipe, the beast was backfiring and boost creeping like a *****......but i had a backfiring problem before i installed the PFC.....ever since i installed the pfc, i haven't had a problem with backfiring....eventually i'll have to do all these things to the car......thanks for the advice though. oh yeah and my buddies legacy has a real good tune on it..for what its worth

From someone who grew up with subaru's and was around people that use their's strictly for real rally events and still do, I definitely wouldnt be upset if I took a stock FD out and lost to a boosted boxer motor that had a really good tune. Most of the motors Subaru makes have loads of potential are in my opinion as sick as rotary engines, mostly because you cant take an EJ block and throw it in any car.

That being said, a lot of guys that own WRX/STI's are douches, more STI than WRX from my experience but either way you get the picture just be aware if you didnt already know that. Big difference between enthusiast and someone who wants a car to match their ego lol

No offense by the way, I'm not calling anyone on here who owns one a douche its just my opinion from what I've gathered from my experience through different meets and shows.

As for your power goals to beat one everytime, I could say tune it but everyone else has already said it twice lol just get affordable upgrades that'll give you gains here and there if your not tryin to dump money in.. or go big with 99 spec's (or BNR) or a single turbo

well i grew up around Rx7s all my life... to me they were the only car that really got my attention... All the other cars to me were just cars... Besides back in the day subaru didnt have any good cars sports cars that i know of.
Rx7s been around for awhile... And i dont see one on every street. I can tell from 200 feet from a car what kind it is with head lights or tail lights... With my car ya cant. :P makes people look harder

It's BlueShift's old car.

Try throwing the midpipe on now and see what happens

Sorry I call BS on a F430 kill by a stock 7. Wouldn't happen. So don't worry about that. Get yourself a tune with 12psi and a midpipe and smic, you should be fine. If you wanna make even more power upgrade your secondary injectors as well and shoot for 14psi. Chance (FearNoPiston) is making 320whp on stock turboes with 1300cc secondaries at I think 12psi

i definitly called BS on the kills post......back in the day when i had a bike (cbr600rr) i raced a viper on i-5.......i beat him to 172 mph........then he flew past me.....anyways, i wouldn't say i could beat an f430, even though i saw an f430, f40, 360, and a few lambos last weekend.....at the car show i met the legacy guys at....anyways, i'm babbling....forgive me
