Saying hi new to the forum

i just had the opportunity to pick up a 82 RX-7 rally car. So with the quest for evermore knowledge i have been lurking around reading tons of stuff about these cars.

it's a well sorted out car with a mild street port 12a. nothing to crazy fancy about it, just everything is over built with reliability in mind.

just wanted to share and say hi.

not sure i can ever add much to the large list of knowledgeable people on here but i'm sure i have some questions they can answer.

here's a pic of it in action.

Hey Mello, pleasure to have you aboard.
That's a damned nice ride you got yourself
there. I bet you'll have a blast in it. So is
it imported from Japan? I noticed it's right
hand drive.

nope not RHD, you are missing the second helmet that's hard to see. rally is a driver co-driver set up. one guy yells directions at ya and the other one trys to understand what the hell they are saying while driving as fast as you possibly can.

it's good times.

i do the "trying to understand what the hell he just said while not driving off the road at ungodly speeds" aka the driver.

there are very few of them left. there are some great videos of old group B FB rally cars on youtube that are fun to watch.

then there was a group up in washington somewhere that called themselves Fing Pu rally team. they were all about the rotarys and used to rally some FBs back in the day. there is a couple FCs still floating around but sadly just not as many RX-7s as there should be.

I saw a rally-prepped FC for sale recently. I wish I'd had the dough to buy it, it looked pretty sweet and had apparently been pretty successful.

Anyway, nice find and welcome to the forum. What's it got for carburetion, out of curiosity?

a Weber 48 IDA, with a lot of dyno time, and i guess a lot of money thrown at it, but not from me

the guys are still around, but they just don't rally much any more. the last event i can remember them at was doo wop last year. although there is rumor that they will be out in one of their RX-7s at the wild west rally this year. I'm trying to do all i can to get that one too, but it always comes down to $$$$$$

i was helping a friend of my parents sell a FC convertible. i was into that "internet" thing and they wanted me to put some pictures online. but it just took this long before i got a RX-7 of my very own.

That FB looks exactly like the one that was at the Mazda Dealership BBQ - that you?

I was the one with the red FC parked next to you for the last few hours on Sunday.

Mellow65,

Welcome to the club.

That's really one nice looking FB. You made a good choice.

I've owned over fifty rotary engine vehicles and I still have the first one I ever bought; an FB.

If you should ever need any advice or help please contact me.

BTW what are your plans for the car? Do you plan on rallying it or perhaps hillclimbs?

i think the phrase "rally the **** out it" fits quite nicely.

but really last year i was doing rally quite a bit but now i'm going to just cut back to my favorite rallys so that would bring me down to 3 a year.

but there are 6 rallys within a days drive of here, but it always comes down to days off and $$$$. this rally stuff isn't cheap. I always joke that i should have gotten hooked on drugs, it would have been cheaper.

thanks bob, i don't know if i would ever really need much as i brought home enough to damn near build 2 more cars in spare parts.

the only thing I'm missing in my spares bin is a motor, but that might have to wait till some later date when i learn more about these crazy things called an engine that we have. but i'm shooting for something like carbed street ported 13b. or at least that's what i have in my head that i would like.

well that and a right side small axle disc brake axle. if anyone has one of those i could use one of those.

You're not alone in liking both. I have yet to actually own one, but one of my future projects will be a turbo EJ-swapped GL wagon. Something like this. So unassuming, yet so badass.

the NW in my opinion is some of the best rallying there is. (not that i have been anywhere else) so many events so close to each other. other parts of the country you may have one close by but then you need to travel a couple states over to get to the next one. my three that i'm going to try and do a year the farthest one away is 3 hours.

be careful the subaru world will suck you in just like i'm sure the RX-7 world will suck me in. at one time i had like 6 subarus at my house. i'm just down to 2 now. i feel so naked.

but if you're into old school stuff USMB can't be beat for great guys with a wealth of knowledge.

and i have been known to tear down an EJ harness or 2. nothing big like wrx turbo stuff but legacy stuff is pretty easy now.
