S5 13bt rotor

So I'm putting my engine back togather on sunday and I just cand get 1 apex seal to go inI keep trying and trying. Finally I try and put the corner seal in. It goes in but won't move not enough clearance same thing for the apex. I guess when it detonated it must've warped the rotor. It's fawkerd.... So I'm in need of a rotor. Both mine were c's so I guess any will do, but I'd prefer a c or just one letter off. Fawk it I will take any S5 13bt rotor I need to get this car running this weekend. I don't have $500 for a new one. Some one plaese help me. ASAP. I don't know what to do.......................

Adrian,

It sounds like the apex seal groove is dented-in at the corner. This is not uncommon. You can probably save the rotor by clearancing the groove. You would be suprised how much abuse a rotor can take. The critical thing is clearancing. Since you missed this, I presume you did not do any clearancing? In addition to the apex seal grooves, at least check the side seal end clearance. This stuff is really important.

Yes, but way more expensive and rare. FDs tend to die by detonation, so you have a lot of damaged rotors.

I didn't clearance the apex groves, the side seals are still good at .0025-.003 How do I clearance the rotor around the corner seal and the apex seal? Just carefully with the dremmell? I tried to call you yesterday, but the guy who answered the phone said you guys were just leaving to lunch and you'd call me back. I'll call you later today. THis engine only had 5k on it and POP! Never buy Citgo 89 when running turbo. **** I ran arco 87 w/o it detonating... Damn citgo...

Rob might have gone to lunch but I went golfing. Were you calling about this issue or was it something else?

If you are careful, you can file it. Take a file that is about the right width, grind the other sides smooth and run it back and forth down the groove. Put the apex seal in, along with the feeler gauge and measure the clearance until it is right. We have a tool for clearancing the corner seal, but it's not something you are likely to be able to find. You might be able to get away with a dremel if you are very, very careful.
