Tube frame 12A 3rd gen? Sounds like Bud Reichard and his GT2 car. I haven't seen him since Daytona last year, when he wrecked our Grand Am Cup M3. Cool guy!

PIR is easy to identify, its a big road corse with a drag stip front straight . Hopefully I am going to get to take my FZR400 and my RX7 to a track day or two this year, and I try to watch every OMMRA race in the summer.
Does anyone have a web site about when they race cars up there? Like the meetings when this Bud due would be there.

Hey 851stgen12a,

I'm really interested in the Auto-X, could you give me more information on it? I have a AE86 that I'd like to try to run the cones in and a little FD that will probably see some turns as well!!
Thanks

I know this is an old thread, but I do a search of my last name (Reichard) here and I find this thread about you guys talking about my uncle! And of course he's a cool guy! Everyone says I'm a lot like him, despite only meeting him a couple times due to living on the other coast. Yeah, he's ultimately the reason why I'm into RX-7s and wasting my time here, lol.

Somebody mention Bud Reichard? Kewl.
No, I'm not Bud, I'm his brother, Bill, but this is Bud in his steed.
(Notice the camera in there next to him, taking video for his "Real Time Racing" TV show...)

Here's a somewhat newer pic of the same car, with his other FD's, FC & Porsche.

BTW, it doesn't have a 12a in it anymore, it has a 13b, only not just a 13b, it should be at around 340hp by now, that is if they got the Microtech dialed-in yet... plus an upgraded drivetrain (and brakes) to go with it. Last we talked (about 3 weeks ago), he said it is so much faster now, it's kind of scary.

Well, check this out! While on track waiting for the national anthem and the "gentlemen, start your engine" thing, Calvin Fish and the SPEED Channel camera guy came up to my window net. I was kinda startled as I had my mind on other things, I went into my "oh, I'm so excited" thing and thumbs up and promptly forgot about the whole thing.

Well, as it turns out, they apparently used that footage at the start of the program. I didn't see it, but the team owner called me today to let me know. I am driving a yellow BMW M3 in the Grand Am Cup race in Fontana. Don't look for me in the race (at least past the first lap) as we had terminal mechanical failure (rear axle didn't want to stay in the car) so we only got one lap in. That was too bad but it is hilarious that they would use footage of the car that ended up only doing one lap!!!

Program aires again November 11th at Midnite Pacific, 3:00 AM Eastern. Set your VCR's .....

^^^^Nice^^^^

I saw this car at Mid Ohio for the June Sprints last year, fast car. I was there developing/wrenching on the Speads DSR/CSR Racecars for the Runoffs.

I'm doing the track day on the 16th with my bike, so I won't be going this weekend. Sorry, I know I will be needing recovery time from subjecting myself to my crotch rocket torture machine. I might come down to watch though.

Yeah, I remember that. They always use the oddest stuff. In fact just today Mike Helton called me up to see if I could crew at the upcomming enduro and mentioned that the recent race at Barbur (Alabama) had a bunch of weird shots of our crew, like a closing shot of a tatoo on Tim's arm and one of Mary Lee in the pits and some well known person -- I forget who -- commenting on Danny Alvis's driving (one of our drivers).

So Bud is your brother, eh? Heh. I could tell you some stories, but I'm sure they won't come as much of a suprise. I will say, as nice as he is, he is the WORST roommate in the universe (like last year at Fontana)! He also gets a bit boysterous when imbibing ardent spirits, if you know what I mean.

Glad to hear that Microtech is starting to get sorted out.

lol, now imagine him being your big brother, two years your senior, and having to share a bedroom with him till he finally goes off to college. hahaha Back then though, "ardent spirits" was not our intoxicant of choice, so I'm sure that took some of that edge off. I'll just stop right there, as I'm sure my stories won't come as much of a suprise to you either.

I wonder if we met when my wife and I spent a week with Bud & Donna in Seattle - 4th of July week, 2000. Bud raced at Mission, then a day in Vancouver, a day on Mt. Rainier and stuff, man that was a great time and the whole pacific northwest is awesome!

About Microtech, I really need to get an update from Bud on that... he really spent a sh!tload of $$$ and time and effort on all of the briefly aforementioned upgrades, all for nothing really until he finally gets the microtech mapped right. Last we talked, it still wasn't right, but he had some main man coming real soon to do it. If it still isn't right, my guess is it's in a garbage dump somewhere and carbs are back on. I hope the dude got it right, cuz you probably know how Bud can be about something that keeps messing with him. If it keeps him from going to Mid Ohio for the Runoffs, he won't be much fun to be around for a while...

If he needs to try something else, I've got a Haltech E6K sitting around the shop....

Thumbs down crap!

Well, bad news about the microtech. Here's Bud's reply to the email I sent him earlier today...

Well, we have been unsuccessful getting the microtech to work. After four
trips to the Dyno shop and 8 races, I am no further that I was at the
beginning of the season. The car consistantly has a hard time starting and
does not run well throughout the power band. So I grounded the bitch for the
year and cancelled the Runoffs. Very disappointing to miss the last race at
Mid Ohio. Had a spot under the Mazda factory tent, two sets of tires,
everything was set to go... except the car. Oh well, looks like next year
again.

We'll see what my engine builder can do. I'm taking the car up to him at the
end of October. He plans on going through everything and assures me when we
find out what the problem is we'll all be kicking ourselves... we'll see....

Bud
